Teen sentenced to 5 years to life for shaking baby to death
August 13th, 2009 @ 4:21pm

SALT LAKE CITY -- A teenage father who admitted to shaking his baby to death was sentenced to five years to life in prison.

On June 1, Shipman pleaded guilty to child abuse homicide. In exchange, prosecutors dropped the murder and aggravated sexual abuse charges.

He said he shook his 1-month-old daughter Qiana Marie Shipman because she was crying. Prosecutors say she died from a fatal head injury from repeated blows or shaking.

In court, Shipman told the judge he takes full responsibility for what happened.

Shipman's mother said it was a tragedy of his inexperience and frustrations.
