Witnesses' history raised in kidnapping case
August 3rd, 2009 @ 4:21pm

SALT LAKE CITY -- Lawyers for a man accused of kidnapping his neighbor's children are trying to discredit some of the witnesses against him.

David Bell's attorneys filed a motion Monday to include prior convictions of the state's witnesses. They claim one had a prior history of a home invasion.

Bell is accused of kidnapping the neighbor's 2-year-old daughter and her 4-year-old cousin during a 4th of July celebration a year ago. He's accused of taking the kids to his home.

Before police arrived, someone beat Bell and his partner.

Bell's attorneys say the neighbor's family broke into his home, trashed it, then beat the two men.

Trial is scheduled to begin next month.
