Man sentenced in deadly shooting on I-15
August 2nd, 2009 @ 4:17pm

SALT LAKE CITY -- A West Point man will spend up to 20 years in prison for his role in the fatal shooting of another man on Interstate 15.

Matthew Day, 24, was driving near the 2100 South interchange back on January 9 when he pulled his car alongside a Jeep driven by 18-year-old Cesar Ramirez.

One of the two passengers in Day's car shot Ramirez. He died a week later.

Day told investigators he thought the people in the Jeep were members of a rival gang. According to his lawyer, Day won't say who fired the shot because "snitches" are often targeted in prison.

A judge sentenced Day to two to 20 years in prison.
