PROVO -- A Provo nurse has been arrested after police say he took advantage of a patient who was struggling with an addiction.
Provo police tell KSL Newsradio a male nurse was taking care of two female patients in the psychology ward at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center earlier this month. A joking conversation between the patients and nurse became somewhat sexual in nature when it was mentioned some pain medication could be traded if one of the girls showed him their chest.
One night, one of the female patients was placed in a room by herself and reported that around 3 a.m., while she was groggy, a person came in and moved her gown around and fondled her.
Later she found an unopened package of Lortab pills from the hospital, tucked in with her personal belongings. The woman was in the hospital because of struggles she had been having with pain medications, and she told what happened to her therapist.
Police were contacted. Through an investigation, it was discovered the pills had been checked out by the nurse that was taking care of her, although the medication was signed out as if it was going to a different patient.
On Tuesday, police arrested the nurse, Skyler Evans, and booked him in jail on a number of charges, including forcible sexual abuse, abuse of a vulnerable adult and fraudulently obtaining a controlled substance. Evans has since bailed out of jail.
