Woman places ad to 'barter' her Jeep for a husband
July 13th, 2009 @ 6:28pm
By Amanda Butterfield

SALT LAKE CITY -- A Salt Lake woman hopes her Jeep Wrangler will help her wrangle a man to marry. She's offering the jeep in exchange for a proposal and ring, and her story is quickly spreading via the Internet all over the world.

"Free Jeep with wedding ring ... Let's get hitched!" the ad reads. It's author, Kelly O'very, obviously has a sense of humor and some guts.

A few weeks ago, O'very posted an ad on KSL Classifieds Offering her 1992 Jeep for a proposal and a ring.

"I did it mostly as a joke, and I thought: You know, if something comes of it that's great," O'very said.

Something has come out of it: responses. O'very says she has received between 200 and 300 e-mails from suitors interested in O'very and her Jeep.

"I'm trying to weed them out, narrow it down to see if I can find somebody to hook up with," O'very said.

She's doing this because she's 38 years old and really really wants to be married.

"The people I spend the most time with are married. They make it look so good. How can you not want that for yourself?" O'very said.

Her best friend, who's married, helped her come up with the idea and says Kelly is an intelligent woman who figured by throwing her jeep in the deal, she would attract a man with similar interests.

"I also ride a four-wheeler, so I like to go to the dunes a lot and I would like somebody who wants to play," O'very said.

She has hope "Mr. Right" will see this ad, and the two will four-wheel into the sunset together. What a great story they'd have to tell their kids and grandchildren!

"As my sister-in-law said to me over the Fourth of July holiday, 'That's a way better story than "we met at BYU,"'" O'very said.

KSL Classifieds does not post personal ads, but this ad technically was a "trade or barter" for a jeep, so it was allowed.

KSL Classifieds has the right pull any ads deemed inappropriate.
