Search for boys swept away in river being scaled back
May 4th, 2009 @ 11:14am

GRAND CANYON -- The search for two teens missing and presumed dead in the Grand Canyon has been scaled back.

Fifteen-year-old Saif Sayava and 16-year-old Mark Merrill were on a church camping trip last week when they decided to jump into the Colorado river and got stuck in a strong current.

Merrill's 20-year-old brother Joey tried to help them but also got swept away.

Over the weekend the search included helicopters, a search-dog team, foot patrols and boats, along with park rangers. Now, park rangers will carry on with limited continuous efforts until the young men have been located and recovered.

The body of Mark Merrill was found on Friday, but the other two still have not been spotted.
