Police dogs get bulletproof vests
May 2nd, 2009 @ 5:54pm

SALT LAKE CITY - K-9 units from the Salt Lake County and Utah County sheriff's offices received special bulletproof vests on Saturday.

Daniel Forster with the Utah County Sheriff's Office said, "With the vest, it provides additional protection. It also helps us utilize them as a police dog in other functions."

Those attentional tasks include repelling out of helicopter or cliffs, as well as carrying important equipment.

The new vests are customized for the dogs and cost around $2,500. The agencies got them free of charge thanks to the Utah Valley Kennel Club and Utah Beehive Cluster.
