SALT LAKE CITY -- Former vice president, Nobel Prize winner and environmental activist Al Gore met with leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Thursday night. Gore requested the meeting, and the topic was climate change.
He was met by Elder M. Russell Ballard, Elder Quentin L. Cook, Presiding Bishop H. David Burton and other members of the Church' Public Affairs Committee. Before this meeting, church officials say Gore also met with Church President Thomas S. Monson.
According to a statement from the Church, Gore "gave a 30-minute presentation and expressed his concerns about CO2 emissions, which was followed by several minutes of questions and answers."
In 2006, Gore came to Utah to introduce what would become his Academy Award-winning film "An Inconvenient Truth" at the Sundance Film Festival. Since then, he often takes the opportunity to meet with civic, corporate and religious leaders around the country talking about the dangers of and solutions to climate change.
His next stop will be Las Vegas, where he will address a wireless communication industry convention Friday.
