BOUNTIFUL - The two teachers accused of having sex with one student in Davis County will be examined.
Meanwhile, state lawmakers want to study the issue of teacher-student texting. Rep. Sheryl Allen, R-Bountiful, says texting can be inappropriate, but it also can be used for good.
"It can be used as a tool to remind students about homework or give them a piece of information. Students are driving this because texting is one of their major modes of communication," she said.
Allen says the state may not make an overall policy, but school boards would have to be involved.
It's in response to the arrest of two Bountiful Junior High School teachers for having sex with the same 13-year-old student.
Linda Nef, 46, and Valynne Bowers, 39, face first-degree felonies. Police say the relationships started with texting about different subjects. It then turned sexual.
Their attorneys say the women will have mental health evaluations.
Bowers' attorney, Rich Gallegos, told the Deseret News his client is not a predator. "The kid is clearly a victim, but I think these ladies were somewhat vulnerable," he told the newspaper.
