@Brandon W. - How about, "Free America?" Quite frankly, I care about freeing Tibet as much as I do global warming. I'd rather see this country free from the oppressive tyrannical government that's bulldozing it's way over America, and bankrupting the economy.
@maxpro - ...our country is failing. We are all in it for ourselves rather then caring about others. Me and America. Me Me me.
I do find it funny however that all these people are screaming to restore what is basically a theocracy when most US citizens demand democracy in places like Iran.
@Brandon W. - why don't he go do the non fighting elsewhere? Do we have any money for that? tibet is a religious state, the woman have no rights over there. Only the religious elite get to go to Nirvana. martyrs don't even want any 70 gals up there! they don't buy it!
why should we!? lets free Alaska instead ( keep Palin though, we don't want any trouble with the neighbors)Free Hawaii!
@pre - No worries.
Old lady Hilary is over there trying to make nice with China.
Could be alot more red on Old Glory in the next couple of years thanks to her.
@pre - Just becasue you think that you have it so hard in America. Which you don't. You can't even consider learning about other problems that face the world.
@Reba F. - Really? How about you offer some education on the plight of Tibet? I'll let you surf before you answer. Fact is, you know squat about Tibet other than what you hear on the news or you would have offered something of some value. If you would like to actually discuss World Events, feel free to start. I doubt you will however. That might lead to confirming the notion that you know sqaut about Tibet, and probably less about the rest of the issues of the World. Anything else you would like to offer....other than the same old tired educate yourself and have some compassion argument? We have our own problems right now. How about we address them first?
Why would the United States try to free Tibet when it most likely will end in a war with the US and China? Ever since we opened trade with China, almost everything that we buy comes from China. Before people blame Bush for our trade with China place the blame where it should be. Bill Clinton opened trade with China despite the fact that they hate the United States and China has a history of Human Rights abuses as well as controlling countries like Tibet. They also want to invade countries like Taiwan. In addition, guess who is providing the funding for Obama's bailouts and other wasteful spending? If we go to war with China we would be in trouble because they are our creditor as well as provide most of our goods including components used in the US military. Do you think China would still ship goods used to make weapons, allow us to pay our debt to them on the current terms, and loan the United States more money if we were at war with them? We have our hand tied and cannot free Tibet.
@MaryT777 - China's economy depends on selling Americans cheap junk. And now they've bought themselves trillions of dollars worth of our debt, which we'd excuse ourselves from paying if there was a war. They're in an extremely tenuous position.
I don't WANT them to loan us more money that will ruin my children and grandchildren forever. Our mess is OUR problem. The worst that could happen to our children, should there be a real depression, is that they'd learn the value of a dollar and live lives more like our grandparents. I can imagine a worse scenario.
Nuts to the Chinese. I'm tired of kowtowing to them.
@mickeyqbitsko - I don't want China or any other country loaning us money. If countries like China would refuse to loan us money then maybe Obama would stop going on a spending spree and our children won't be burdened with a debt that we created. I also don't like the idea that China is selling us junk tainted with lead and melamine or the fact that a country that hates the United States is doing trade with the United States. A real depression or severe recession will teach not only our children the value of a dollar but also this lesson will be learned by a lot of adults who have tried to buy more than they can afford.
@mickeyqbitsko - 1) China's economy does not depend on selling Americans anything. It's self-sustained. US trade deficit exists for a reason: Americans want and need cheap goods. If they don't come from China, they will come from somewhere else. You can't blindly blame the supply side.
2) True China holds a significant amount of our debt. It didn't happen just yesterday. And quite contrary to what to think, the US government is seeking buyers in this economic downtime, China being one of them. US-China should establish constructive, cooperative relationship which is mutually beneficial. China is the least enemy US should worry about.
3) Talking about those trillions of debt, and your worry of ruining your children and grandchildren forever, well, the first step is make sure President Obama spends responsibly. Speaking of which, what happened to the traditional American value of self-accountability?
@Jenifer N. - God forbid anyone in SLC learn something about other religions or countries. Why don't you just stay in your little bubble and continue only thinking of yourselves.
Or educate yourself about what is going on in the world. Does it matter if you cant fix it. Knowledge is the key. And compassion is somehow lost here.
@WAT! - Is that all you got...well then they should remove your insightful, thoughtful comments, if there going to remove my ignorant, racist ones. So there.
demonstration along with $2 will get you a coke at most convenience stores. It doesn't matter who is right and who is wrong here, the simple matter is the situation is not going to change until China wants it to change.
There are more Chinese in Tibet than Tibetians. What does a free Tibet really mean? Would they have their own government? Would all the Chinese (again there are more chinese there than anyone else) have to leave?
It would be just as realistic to free Native Americans.
@Reba F. - What does Free Tibet mean? Because really, no, I don't understand the issue. How does Tibet become free, what qualifies as a Free Tibet?
People are disagreeing with me, yet no one has been willing to define what would constitute a free tibet.
If you're saying I don't understand because if I understood how horrible China has been to Tibet then I would be for a free tibet as well, then you're wrong. I get it that 60 years ago China took control of Tibet and has done what China does, as in destroy Human rights. But that doesn't change the fact that Tibet cannot be separated from China, unless you can tell me how?
@lonewolfeyes08 - There is no Tibet as a nation. I would be just as unjust at this time to displace all the Chinese people who live in Tibet as it was for China to take the place over nearly 60 yeaers ago. that means that generations of Chinese have lived there. There are people who were born in Tibet after Chinese rule that are now in thier 50s. So people think it's okay to kick them out of the only home they've ever known because it's hippie-fashionable to support a "free Tibet."
Get real. There is no longer such a thing as Tibet anymore than Utah is the Ute nation. It's over, Game, Set, Match. Tibet cannot be freed.
@Dave K. - Tibet WAS a nation. Now they have been fully integrated into China. As I've said, there are more Chinese in Tibet than Tibetans. You cannot separate Tibet from China. They are the same place.
If I need to study my history why don't you tell me, what would a "free Tibet" mean? How would that work?
Now what might be possible would be that China recognized the Tibetans right to practice their religion and have their own semi-autonomous government in the region. If that's what you're talking about you might be on to something. But the concept of a free Tibet is silly.
@jaredbyoung - you may have answered your own question...By the Chinese government and honor history, giving the Tibetan government back Lhasa; THOUSANDS of Tibetan people and other cultures would move back from Dharmsala. AND I'm sure the Chinese would be more than welcome to stay!
@jaredbyoung - Disagree completely. It is completely justified to remove any of those people who have moved in after an illegal occupation. My and my family were more then happy to reclaim our properties after the fall of the Soviet Union from the Russians that had lived in them for 50 years. Time does not correct an injustice. If I steal your car, how long until it is legally mine?
If you've gathered raw data, you know the Tibetan and the Chinese government implement a peace treaty about three decades ago. The Chinese government violated that treaty in claiming the land back. The Tibetan, and Buddhist culture do not believe in war. In fact, that is the last thing HH the Dalai Lama wants. READ:

So many of your posts talk about solving this with war. I know several Tibetans. All they want is for the world to know what their country has gone threw. They have a beautiful culture that we all could learn from. "When all you have is a hammer, you see all your problems as nails." We need to expand our toolbox so to speak. The Tibetans I know just want our prayers..
China will never give up its military stronghold. With most of its land being mountain, china needs a suburb too! Thats why they are building a train to Beijing. That way Tibet can become the new Ogden for China.
Save America...being held hostage by communist radicals!! When are people going to rally behind our own country instead of wanting to solve the worlds problems when we are at stake of losing our own nation?
