Group holds event to 'honor' Sen. Chris Buttars
February 28th, 2009 @ 9:47pm

SALT LAKE CITY -- Hundreds of people paid tribute to one of Utah's controversial senators Saturday.

The group played music and danced at the State Capitol as part of an event they called "Buttars-Palooza," which they held in "honor" of the West Jordan senator.

Sen. Chris Buttars, R-West Jordan

"‘Buttars-Palooza' is a celebration of Chris Buttars. So many different organizations, ethnic communities, we've got labor organizers here. We've got environmentalists here, and we're all uniting together and thanking Chris Buttars for bringing us all together," co-organizer Troy Williams said.

Organizers say if not for the the public outcry in response to Buttars' recent comments toward homosexuals, Utah's progressive community would not have become so united.
