Some see it as one of the indicators of the economy: They call it the "Mormon Index," and it's getting mention in places like St. Louis.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch recently took note of increasing activity around The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' bishop's storehouses and home storage centers. [Click here to read the article]
Some economists say the Mormon Index can be a good micro-indicator of what's going on.
Director of Bishops Storehouse Services Kevin Neild says, index or not, demand is up. "During 2008, the volume of distribution just about doubled," he said.
Neild oversees the bishops storehouses and home centers throughout North America.
