Sandra Yi reporting West Jordan Police are investigating what appears to be a murder suicide.

Police say that a 22-year-old man shot and killed his 21-year-old girlfriend, then turned the gun on himself. Police found the couple's bodies in the girl's home just after 9 am Tuesday morning.

Police say that the couple had been going through a break up. Apparently, the woman gave the boyfriend his items back on Monday.

Early this morning, police say the mother of the woman saw the boyfriend lurking outside of their home. He told the mother that he was just there to protect the girl from stalkers. He also said that his car had broken down. He asked to use the phone and if he could wait inside. The mother said no.

Police believe he stole the house keys before he left.

When the mother left for work around 6:30 Tuesday morning, she saw that the car was still outside of the home. The mother thought that the boyfriend was waiting for a ride.

At 9am this morning, the victim was talking to a friend on the phone, when the friend says she heard screaming. The line then went dead. The friend called police.

When the police arrived, they found the couple dead from gunshot wounds.

Lt. Dan Gallagher, West Jordan Police Dept.: "It's awful. It's a young couple that... apparently it was just a relationship that went bad. He took it to the next level. She wanted to end it, completely break ties with him by delivering his items. Apparently, he didn't want to let go."

Police have not released any names, as they are still notifying family members.

Police are searching the boyfriend's home, as well as his car.
