SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A prison inmate charged with killing the guard who transported him to a medical appointment has asked for new defense attorneys.
In court papers filed Monday, Curtis Allgier says the public defenders assigned to his case have a conflict of interest.
He says they failed to preserve some evidence and have disclosed information that should have been kept private.
Allgier is charged with capital murder for the June 2007 shooting death of prison guard Stephen Anderson.
In a separate motion, Allgier asked a judge to order him "double-cuffed" during court visits. He says a shoulder injury is exacerbated when he is handcuffed and wants guards to link two sets of cuffs together so he'll be less constrained.
A hearing is set for Jan. 29.
