The speed limit on a portion of Interstate 15 has been increased. From south of Nephi to about Scipio, it is now legal to drive 80 miles an hour.
The new speed limit follows a law change last year that gives transportation officials authority to increase the limits, but only after thorough studies.
However, Trooper Cameron Roden of the Utah Highway Patrol says don't expect to be able to drive 10 miles over the posted limit without a problem.
"Even though the speed limit has increased in these areas, we just expect them to maintain good driving decisions as they're out there," Roden said. He says troopers plan to closely monitor the area for now to try to get that message to drivers.
