CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) -- A trial is under way for a man accused of shooting and wounding a police officer.
Bryan Featherhat, 32, is charged with first-degree felony attempted aggravated murder and aggravated robbery, a second-degree felony.
Prosecutors say Featherhat shot Cedar City police officer Jason Thomas twice with a 12-guage shotgun in January 2007. Thomas had stopped to assist Featherhat after his pickup truck slid off an icy road.
Thomas recovered from the injuries.
Featherhat underwent mental evaluations but was ruled competent to stand trial.
The trial, which started Monday, is expected to go through Friday.
