Business booming at dollar stores
November 14th, 2008 @ 8:12am
By Marc Giauque

A lot of retailers are hurting right now, but that's not the case for many dollar stores.

Shares of stock for one chain were up by 43 percent earlier this week, while earnings at another national chain rose by 16 percent for the third quarter.

Locally, shoppers at one store say it's no surprise to them that sales are booming where you can get things for about a buck.

"You save up for the big stuff because the big stuff is so expensive. You can pick up little stuff here and make a better Christmas," said shopper Lori Curtis.

She says the aisles have definitely become more crowded where she shops and that her habits have definitely changed.
