The substitute teacher recently arrested for an inappropriate meeting with a student in the middle of the night wasn't even qualified to be a substitute.
A substitute teacher like Christopher Page is considered an "emergency substitute." A spokesman for the Granite School District says when there's a 19-year-old in the classroom, it's usually to cover one or two periods when there are no other options for a teacher. It's happened only 30 times in the district this year.
The district's regular substitutes are required to have at least 48 semester hours of college.
Age makes a difference at other districts. Davis requires substitutes to be at least 20 years old. In the Alpine District, it's 21.
Police say they found Page in a car, shirtless, with a 13-year-old from the class he had substituted.
