Jason Chaffetz Jason Chaffetz has my vote. I have been real impressed with him for the last 6 months.
Not only does he have good ideas. He has run a good campaign, without over spending or going in debt. All the others in this particular race are in the hole, either in debt or negative cash.
I really like the fact he is talking about issues.
The democrat made the mistake, in my opinion, of hiring a professional campaign consultant. 1/5 of his expenses, the last I checked. Other than some negative press, which people see right through, I don't see what he has done.
Most people are smart enough to go to the source to find out what someone believes, instead of listening to their opponent.
will o @will o - I'm impressed.. and surp[rised you dont move to San Francisco, or as the rest of the world recognizes as the western US comunist party.
hah @Richard B. - "recognizes as the western US communist party"
laughed out loud on that one. Maybe by rest of the world you mean Utah. I love how we now live in this world where if you arent a bible thumping republican conservative then your some sort of socialist or communist or outright evil human being. Hillarious.
This is a the story @Muskrat McDougal - For the first time in months, Zogby shows McCain leading by one point nationally and up very slightly in certain key swing States.
But KSL chooses NOT to report on that and instead tells us that Obama has broken 30% in Utah?!?!?!?!?
Charles @Charles h - So called journalists are doing everything they can to get out whatever propaganda they think will help the Obamanation. For much of the uneducated and dishonest masses that don't understand socialism, it is easy to be deceived.
Not my only hope for survival @G DIDDY - The "Obamanation" is NOT my only hope for survival...at least not for the survival of the American way of life. His policies of nationalizing health care and spreading the wealth around are stepping stones to socialism. Not voting for an "Obama nation", thanks.
Jason Chaffetz @Monty p. - Jason Chaffetz is more a voice of reason compared to:
There are people that want to round up all 12 million illegals, and are mad that Jason DOESN'T want to do that. Jason only wanted facilities where the government wouldn't have to catch and release felons. There are 600,000 they have let go. We wouldn't have to build facilities for that many, as we just need a temporary facility for convicted criminals, to be held prior to deportation.
There are people that don't want anyone new moving in, where Jason wants to fix LEGAL immigration so it doesn't take so long to legally come here.
There are people that think providing any temporary worker visa is wrong, where Jason agrees it is a great way to bring people out of the shadows, get rid of the fake IDs, but this in NO WAY provides a pathway to citizenship in front of those wanting to immigrate who have followed the rules.
wow Tom and Charles @Tom W. - While I hadn't heard about the Zogby poll - not even on Faux News - every other poll has Obama up by at LEAST 6 points nationally - yes, Faux News, who usually uses the closest national poll - reported Obama up by 6 points just this morning, and Obama is showing ahead or very close in key states...
I know that you guys must be in deep denial, but come on.
Tom - we are not uneducated OR dishonest (unlike Palin, who thinks that abusing power isn't unethical)....we understand what socialism is and we understand that Obama's not a socialist - we also understand that we need a major change in this country - Obama's going to bring that needed change - and we're not going to be talked out of it. The fear and smear campaign that the GOP constantly brings will not work - we are fed up - we are over it - we are done! Maybe one day, you people will understand this and the GOP will change its message.
California @Rachael C. - California looks better all of the time Rachael!
Utah is in the top two states in the nation for fiscal responsibility and has three cities in the top ten for livability.
Is that because we all support Democratic Values like the ones you see in the back of the butt wipe newspapers downtown? Mrs. Wilson should be ashamed to publish such trash!
No @Dogface - IT the most over taxed state in the nation, so it should be. Were cutting Law Enforcement budgets, and other services. So weres all the fiscal responbilities.
Ya @Rachael C. - Obama will bring change alright. Domination, slavery, and the loss of the freedoms that this country was founded on. Maybe Obama isn't a socialist, he's a Muslim Communist. He will ignore The Constitution, Declaration of Independance, the Bill of Rights, and anything else that is in opposition to his take over criteria. He is EVIL.
Avoid him as you would avoid a poisonous serpent!
r @Rachael C. - so many issues with fox news... cant handle the truth huh? they are number one in viewrs and they do a darn good job of having both sides represented.
I watch all the polls- and yes fox like always doesnt tilt the polls to make mccain look better, they just report whats out there~ truth in news media is rare but sweet.
I think polls are so/so First who is polled? how many people? are they acutally going to vote or just talking about it?
I choose to wait and see who actually votes on Tues. Not who zogby or anyone says will win.
I think this race is very close and it will be decided by the dumb electoral college that even most dems had a problem with in 2000-
In all truth Obama isnt (if he wins) going to be able to swoop in in his superman outfit and make the world all ok (yes the world) He has many many many promises, but truth is I highly doubt he'll be able to keep many.
If Mccain gets in- I count on a shake up in Washington, a freezing on spending, and our taxes being kept low. I count on National security being a top issue- with out it our economy will suffer even more.
I doubt either guy will be able to get us out of this huge deficit in 4-8-12 years... I doubt either guy will be able to keep all promises but I choose to go with the one I see UNITING dems and republicans alike. Someone I know will reach across the isle to make this country better. I never have seen bama do it and with major control in all houses he wont have to.
Your right though
Divided we fall and Divided we fail.
You say the GOP needs change- I agree
but to think the Dem. Party is good as is - --- buyer beware... not even close.
I do not care about polls @Avispex - I think they are a manipulation device that serve only the cause of the media, or stated differently, the cause of the wild leftist democrats.
Joe the Plumber @Charles h - how long do you think its going to take for the media to let us know more about Obama, who looks to be our next President and who has been "campaigning" for over 2 years, than we have been informed about Joe the Plumber, who is NOT running for President at all!
Charles.. @Charles h - Lie... McCain is not even close to Obama. This is a clear win for Obama. Americans are finally realizing the republicans have dug us into a deep enough hole, and now Obama will dig us out.
Ditto, Mott @Mott - Ummm, KSL and Deseret News, duh no wonder there was a larger number for McCain. Abc4 news has McCain 46.6 and Obama at 45. Guess it all depends on who's conducting the poll.
reminds me of the debated @gemstone - after the debates most news stations show obama with slight victories in the debates. Then you turn to msnbc and its obama by a landslide, the you turn to Fox and its McCain by a land slide. Man is this country skewed.
Just a thought @will o - As Utah is such a Red state and congress is blue, anyone in Matheson's district better hope he wins because this state's going to need him, if we ever want anything from the Federal Government in the future.
Wake Up Folks... @Arc - The thing that bothers me most... is that the Utah Republicans don't really even understand what they are Republicans for. It used to be a Conservative (Right Wing) Party, that was about Old Fashioned Values and the protection of independence and hard-working Americans. I was a Republican, and it took me "waking-up" and really looking at what was going on... then I was shocked to find that I was supporting a bunch of SUPER RICH (WEALTHY) criminals and their corporations. They are in a network with each other… and the middle class has been relegated to the "Upper Class of the Poor"!!
I wish Utah would stop just voting blindly, based on the old way things "USED TO BE", and really look at what is happening to us, by the politicians.
Me too @Spokesman for God - I agree with you, I'm a long time Republican supporter too but I just couldn't stomach it anymore and vote blindly. My concience just couldn't ignore what was happening to our country and to the middle class Americans. Time for a change and to retool America. America first, there is still time....make the wise choice vote Obama if you want this country to recover from the BS that the current administration has put us in!!!!!
Please Vote Against Obama! @Spokesman for God - I have paid close attention to this Presidential election and nothing scares me more then Obama winning! I don't really care to vote for John McCain, because he has his issues but I am for sure voting against Obama. I don't care about republican or democrat I care about the character of the man.
Nothing will destroy this country faster then socialism or sharing the wealth! Can't Obama see that it has never worked in other countries. It can't and won't work here. You reap what you sew. I think too many American's are looking for a handout. Why don't they just get off their butts and go get a job, save money and spend wisely. What would be the motivation for people to work hard if the government was going to take their money away and give it to the lazy poor people? There are many other reasons to not vote for Obama such as his ties to terrorist and anti-american's not to mention his association to ACORN.
What about his ties with the credit crisis? The governmnent in the 1990's forced banks to give bad loans to the poor and minority groups that couldn't afford homes and to pay back those loans. Obama was a lawyer and fought for the people and against the banks. Obama was a huge part of the reason we are in the mess we are today along with many Democrats and Republicans.
What about the war in Iraq? Obama wants to pull all the troops home and then sit down and have nice talks with all the terroists and organizations that want to kill and destroy America and Isreal. If Obama wins then prepare for war coming to America. I think I would rather see war being fought off of American soil. Bush may have other issues and things he is wrong on but I feel he is right on with the war. Iraq harbors terrorists and hundreds have been killed thanks to the war in Iraq. Sure we have to still find other terrorists but finding and killing others has been a success. (Thanks to all those soldiers who have fought and continue to fight for our Freedom and for those in Iraq that desire to be free!)
I could go on about FACTS on Obama but I hope the people of America will see the real Obama and what he stands for.
Spencer - WHERE do you get your "information" @Spencer F. - NONE of what you're saying is true (unless it's in the mind of Hannity, Limbaugh, Michael "Savage" Weiner).
IF you truly believe Obama has terrorist ties, what are you doing here?
WHY haven't you turned Obama in to Homeland Security as being a potential terrorist? WHY? I dare you to explain why you have not. A good patriot who identifies a terrorist threat, certainly should do the right thing.
I agree @Layton Mom - It's funny to hear this when he's a US Senator. Don't you think if this was true, the FBI, CIA, and Homeland Security would have validated it and have thrown him in jail? Lastly, he has been in the same room as the President of the United States. I don't think that would even be possible if those were true.
Obama and terrorists @Ceedoubleu - I certainly dont think Obama is a terrorist nor do I believe he hates his country. I do question his close associations with people who are terrorists however. He could have put my mind at ease over the issue had he been upfront about those associations. I worry about Obama because he has not been candid about these shady people he spends time with. As far as Mcain I worry about him as well for different reasons. Once again I find myself wondering who will screw up the country faster. Why cant we get some decent candidates for the most important job in the world!
High Opinion @Ceedoubleu - You sure have a higher opinion of the FBI, CIA, and Homeland Security than I do. If Al Capone had to be brought in on tax evasion charges because they couldn't prove he was a terrorist (at least if you use today's far-reaching definition of terrorist), what makes you think they'll be able to bring in a senator with lots of influence, especially when they have to watch out for political correctness and cries of racism from the general public and especially the media? Any action taken against Obama right now without absolute concrete evidence, even if there is enough circumstantial evidence to convict an ordinary person, would cause this country to riot. Just because there has been no action taken does not mean that he is not guilty.
Now, that being said, I do not think there is enough evidence, even circumstantial, to brand him as a terrorist. I do believe, though, that there are a lot of questions that need to be answered that are being ignored by the Obama campaign and the media in general. If his associations were few and just "through education" as Ceedoubleu suggests (see post below), Obama would have nothing to fear from answering questions about those associations. In fact, he would not have to even disown his pastor or spend so much money distancing himself from his "friends". The sad fact is that Obama is much more connected to these people (and there are very, very many) than just through education (see Reverend Wright, ACORN, and Rezko, to name a few). We deserve answers that are actually true as can be seen from the facts that have been unearthed. Just denying an association or saying it was just through education doesn't make the facts go away.
Both Layton Mom and Ceedoubleu need to realize the reality of the accusations made against Obama before throwing out their own self-righteous "you turn him in" or "well, the FBI etc thinks he's not guilty". Those arguments are calculated to end discussion by calling on a "higher power" or returning the blame to the one making the original argument. They do nothing to further a discussion on the merits (or lack thereof) of either candidate. Spencer F should also realize that while his comments did bring up some issues that need to be talked about, there were many unfounded accusations made.
While general information can be found on many of these topics by searching Google, Wikipedia, etc, if you have a specific accusation, please post a link to the source.
Speaking of the FBI @Rich G. - I find it ironic that we may possibly have a new president who would not pass a basic FBI background screen because of his associations with Ayers, Wright, Rezco, Khalid and the list goes on. Even passive associations would cause him to flunk the screening.
Marc!!! @Marc H. - Yet the FBI, CIA, Homeland Security think that he is fine. Love how some chump from the reddist state in the union came up with something so insightful. What a hack. Start packing yor bags your turn to move if you dont like it!!!!
Reply @Rich G. - I saw Obama's interview with Bill O'Reilly in which he answered those questions. Did you see this interview?
My reference to those agencies are in the context of this...I find it very hard that he would have not only been cleared to a degree to have access to confidential information but to have access to the president.
Rezko? This is funny too. What about Charles Keating Jr. and McCain?
Rev. Wright? I like to hear people bring him up. Let me say that I don't condone what he says nor do I support his extreme views. However, I can see his frame of reference. Rev. Wright came up through racisms, segregation, and the slanted views of America in one of the darkest times in modern American history. While I can relate to some of his message, I cannot qualify all of them either. I will say that my grandfather told me of times when a black man couldn't look a white women in the face…if it happened, there’s a possibility of getting beaten or going missing; blacks wasn't allowed to go to the hospital if they were sick…blacks had to find other methods of treatment; blacks had to walk miles (pass four or five white schools) just to go to a black school; blacks had to eat out of the back of the restaurants; blacks wasn’t allowed in the commercial swimming pools in which blacks had to swim in dirty ponds, and many other examples of discrimination. The sad thing is my grandfather is a little bit older than Rev. Wright. What I’m getting at is this…Within Rev. Wright’s frame of reference; he is expressing his own point of view and by his own personal experience he could be right. However, it doesn’t express the opinion of everyone that heard his sermon. Also, I have my own personal experiences that I draw from when I hear Rev. Wright’s sermon. However, I don’t subscribe that line of thinking that Rev. Wright has expressed.
What about this? McCain opposed the creation of a federal Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, but admitted in 2008 he was wrong and eventually realized that it was time to give full support [in 1990] for a state holiday in Arizona. So you mean to tell me since the passing of the civil rights act in the mid 60’s and seeing the progression of minorities (including women), McCain couldn’t pull himself to honor Martin Luther King until many years later. Wow!
Acorn? The verdict is still out for me. I haven’t found much if anything to comment on.
It makes one think..... @Layton Mom - I think Spencer brings up some good points. Obama can say anything he wants to right NOW but I believe the adage that actions speak louder than words. His ACTIONS over the past 10-15 years speak louder to me than anything he has SAID in the past year. One way to judge a man's character is to look at those whom he spends time with. In this case, Obama's obvious sympathies for extremists and those who support terrorist viewpoints are alarming to me. I do believe that he will be the next president but I am VERY worried where his policies will take us.
Is he the sole responsible party @Spencer F. - Sharing the wealth! This is so laughable just in the context of saying it. This is a common practice in the US. When you pay your taxes, where do you think it goes? Basically, we wouldn’t have a government without it. This is the biggest example of sharing the wealth. Also, when Bush gave stimulus checks, where do you think this money came from? The $700 billion bail-out. Where do you think this money is coming from? So, I’m sorry. I cannot buy into this new idea of socialism or sharing the wealth.
Ties to terrorist and anti-Americans. This as the other topic is laughable. So, everyone that has taken classes from those terrorist and anti-Americans (at both the University of Chicago and Columbia University) are now linked to terrorist. Your comments, just as the comments that come from the Republican Party, imply that Barack went out seeking the attention and fellowship with those individuals. I was very skeptical on these matters just as you were. So, I researched them and found that their ties were through education and not as the Republican Party is suggesting.
Credit Crisis? Come on, you honestly subscribe to that? Interesting. You seem to forget one very important thing (well, many). Barack wasn’t approving the loans and/or signing people up for home loans. If what you say is true, (Utah is one of the leaders in the country in mortgage fraud) this would imply that he’s the blame for Utah practices too. That’s a tall order for one man to be responsible for.
War in Iraq? I don’t know where and how you came up with all of that. Do as I’ve always suggest….go do your own research? Fact Check is a very good source. General searching on Google is another good source. CNN, MSNBC, FOX, New York Times, BBC and others are great resources to dig into to get a general consensus of the truth.
Lastly, there are many things out there about Barack and have been there for a while. The strangest thing is McCain’s character isn’t out there as much. Why is that? Is his character that much better? From what I’ve been able to research, there are many questionable acts that are not in the public. I don’t see the Democrats really attacking them as the Republican Party is attacking Barack’s character. The message coming out of the Democratic Party is all about issues that are at the forefront.
Poor informantion, poor thinking @Spencer F. - You are certainly entitled to vote however you like, but your reasoning is truly pathetic. You do know that McCain has ties to ACORN also don't you?
Socialism: You have to be kidding? We just nationalized our banks, mortgages, investment houses, and our considering bailing out the auto industry- all under the current administration. Nothing Obama proposes comes anywhere close to this or the level of deficit spending endorsed by Bush and now McCain. Every government moves wealth around. It currently moves wealth from the lower 80% to the richest 5% with disastrous consequences for the whole country. McCain wants to extend this pattern even though we now know perfectly well that it doesn't create jobs or stimulate the economy, it ONLY makes rich people richer. Obama wants to reverse this trend and create a sustainable economy and you worry about socialism? Think!!!! A- Obama is not proposing socialism, just a more progressive tax code- one that benefits the majority instead of harming it. B- the current system is NOT WORKING. What kind of proof do you need? Open your eyes to what is going on now instead of irrationally worrying about irrelevant scare words like "socialism." You sound like some kind of puppet for Palin. Do you believe everything they tell you instead of thinking and seeing for yourself?
Credit crisis: bad mortgages were only part of the problem. Deregulation of banks and investments, wall street greed, etc also played a huge role. McCain's policies and financial advisors were directly involved. Open your eyes!
War on Iraq: We need somebody to look at balancing what needs to happen in Iraq with what is best for our nation. Simply committing to an ineffective quagmire is not in our best interests.
All you need is facts and some clear, independent thinking and you will see that the candidate you support will not solve th every problems you are concerned about. You seem to be just one more "sucker" that the GOP tricks into voting aginst your own interests to keep them in power just because they can scare you.
WHat? @Spencer F. - You are blind... mcCain wont even SURVIVE his first term, putting Palin in the drivers seat!! That should scare you more than anything. It doesn't matter anyways, Obama won. Palin will get a talk show, and McCain will go fishing.. the world will be a better place.
none @Spokesman for God - were't Jim Jones, David Koresch, Tammy Baker and her husband, BillysGraham, Oral Roberts, and all the other televangilists Spokemen for God and they are all frauds. And now you
Wake up Folks @Spokesman for God - You're so right. We call them "sheep". Don't think about it, just punch Republican ticket.
I wrote a letter to the editor about McCain's lack of judgement; I received a phone call from a very nice little old lady; she could only recite Republican verse. To her, Democrats are demons. Period. So sad. But if it were ONLY little old ladies, we'd be okay. Unfortunately it's most of the majority people.
Who isn't? @Spokesman for God - Nowadays, which political party isn't just a bunch of "super rich criminals and their corporations"? Do you think that the Democrats are looking out for the little guy? Which "little guy" do you know in congress for either party? The truth is that most politicians, regardless of party, are "super rich" and they usually bow to powerful lobbyists.
I agree that Utah should stop voting blindly for Republicans, but that doesn't mean that we should blindly vote against Republicans either. Vote for each candidate based on his/her own merits. Political parties still have a place in our decision because there is a reason why the candidates have affiliated themselves with those specific parties, but the most important is what they specifically say and have shown are their actual stands on issues.
The problem with Chaffetz is that he is so far right wing they will have to rig some sort of safety harness to keep him from falling off the edge of Congress.
Unfortunately, he will find himself quite powerless in Washington, not only on the wrong side of the aisle after this election, but the new guy. I have a pretty good feeling he will make lots of noise, but probably just be largely ignored.
Distortion Campaign.. @www.1staidpc.com - One of my biggest complaints is that the democrat challenger has been twisting Jason's views, and changing his own.
Jason Chaffetz is more a voice of reason compared to:
Should have gone the other way.. @Arc - Jason Chaffetz's democrat opponent should have stayed with his friend Dick and stayed positive. Instead he hired an outside political consultant, modified his views, and went negative. I don't think that worked. It sounds like he is trying to go back to that now, but the damage is done.
democrat opponent:
“When my financial disclosures come out you’ll see donations from Florida, New Jersey, Missouri,” Spencer said. “People have heard me on the radio, and they’re sickened by his immigration position. They go online and give me money. They go, ‘Stop the Nazi.’”
Compare that to what Jason Chaffetz has said:
"Fix Legal Immigration
There are millions of people from around the world who seek to legally become a citizen of the United States of America. Unfortunately, the system is failing. Last year the Wall Street Journal stated the current green-card backlog includes applicants who face a 22-year wait time. This doesn’t work for anybody. We need to implement the leadership necessary to fix this problem and appropriate the money needed to thoroughly process applicants in a timely manner. Until legal immigration works, we will continue to have major problems."
Jason the New Guy "Jason will be the "Newby" when he gets to Congress so then he can play with the big boys of the Potomac." That is as true now as when those "Big boys" were junior themselves. It still boils down to one vote per representative, and whom, in the final analysis, that vote truly represents. (That's we Utahns).
Keep in mind, there are several dems (Much like Jim Matheson) who do not necessarily vote along the party line.
I believe Jason Chaffetz will vote as needed to ensure the budget deficit is reduced, and prove to be more fiscally responsible. I believe he will ensure that the illegal immigration problem is proaqctively addressed, and people who are in America illegally identified and eventually deported, (Campaigned as "Catch and deport"). I believe Jason will do whatever it takes to ensure our disabled veteran soldiers are taken care of financially as well as medically. I believe Jason will vote more conservatively and responsibly on international trade agreements that could threaten our nations' sovereignty.
Fix legal @checkinin - Fix legal immigration, and don't reward people that come here without permission, and most will be solved.
Jason has said his plan includes:
Fix legal immigration
Reject amnesty
Lock down the border, enforce visas
Have the political will to enforce the current laws
Get rid of rewards & incentives to be here illegally
Give business the tools & align financial incentives
Insist on assimilation (English)
The full plan is at @Ken H. - Basic ideas:
http://www.jasonforcongress.com/page/page/5600154.htm
Immigration plan (too big to post, I have already posted too much).
http://www.jasonforcongress.com/page/page/5678465.htm
The democrat only has:
1. Stop illegal immigrants at the border by properly funding border states. America has a right to control its borders. In a post 9/11 world we must know who is entering our country.
2. Crack down on employers who hire undocumented workers.
3. Bring undocumented immigrants out of the shadows and put those who are in good standing on a pathway to citizenship so that they can contribute to society by paying their fair share of taxes.
4. Work with nations, like Mexico, to find a solution that will stem the flow of illegal immigrants on both sides of the border.
We have tried that. It hasn't worked. I like Jason's plan.
English.. @Rachael C. - I have friends from all over the world. Bosnia, Kyrgystan, Greece, Vietnam, China, Tonga, Australia, England, plus several South American and Central American countries, not including Canada and Mexico.
If they come to the US, they learn English. Many people in the US get offended when people come here and expect us to learn their language. That causes more bad feelings that any other thing. Most people could care if they like tacos or not, they care if they can communicate or not.
If you go to France, and assume they speak English, many are offended. If you ask them in French, if they speak your language, they are usually warm and friendly. That works here too.
People From @Arc - England and Australia learn English when they come to America ? What were they speaking before ? Also who really cares what the French think ?
Arc @Arc - I agree that people who come here should learn the most common language, which is English - I mean, they can't really get around without being able to communicate. We do NOT, however, have an official language in this country, so to even think about mandating that they "assimilate" to what and who WE want them to be and to mandate that they MUST learn English, is very un-American. That is not what this country was built upon. We are a nation of different cultures, nationalities, languages, and traditions. And we live with each other in peace. That is the beauty of this nation.
So, you are offended if someone is in this country and doesn't speak English. Deal with it. That's just a part of being an adult.
being here or not learning..English @Rachael C. - being here or not learning..
There is a difference. If someone wants to visit the US, I don't expect them to know English. If they want to live here, they should within a couple of years.
At George Washington's time, they picked English. They could have picked German or French. I believe there were more German speaking in several areas at the time. They picked English so we could become one nation.
English has been and should be THE official language. It is for Utah. It should be for the US.
Language drives a bigger wedge in our society than national origin or race.
I don't feel divided with those who do not know English @Arc - Don't get me wrong though...it would be in their best interest to learn the most common language, but I am strongly opposed to making an official language in this country and am strongly opposed to mandating them to "assimilate". That's not what this country is about.
English has not been the official language in the U.S. We have no official language.
why it doesn't work.. @Rachael C. - If you don't fix legal immigration so it doesn't take so long, and if you reward people for coming here illegally, you can't build a tall enough fence.
People that have waited years to come here, should not have an advantage over those that came without permission.
ummmmm @Rachael C. - Didnt his opponent say Jesus would vote for him and something about the beattitudes and health insurance? Your right Rachel, thats more realistic.
FACTS @Rem - I don't like Obama, but please check your facts before posting a complete lie. He was born in Hawaii and has a birth certificate to prove it.
Rob... It's great to see you are still alive. I thought you had died, hadn't heard anything from you. Fuel prices going through the roof...not a word from you. Financial crisis... not a word, I could go on, but you get my drift. Then the election time comes around and you pop up and ask for my vote! Wow! if I vote for you this time, will you actually do something? Will you show up and represent us? Are you capable of getting something done to help us before the crisis'arise? Can you cover the bases on the old problems like oil, financial issues are will you disappear again? Let us know!
Easiest Vote I've Ever Made I have to say that voting for Jason will be the easiest vote I've ever had to make. He's the only candidate that is right on all the issues.
Our State Attorney General needs to lose this election As a rebulican I am more frutstrated with him than any other canidate federal county state or city. This mans's claim to fame is the Amber Alert, which was a result of the Smart Family and America's most Wanted, and his actions against the polygamist's which was pressure from Dr Phil. In the meantime he closes his eye to corporate extortion. And especially a blind eye to the fuel companies that are price fixing. I wonder how much they put into his election. You would have to be an idiot not to see that some of these people especially at Cheveron and Holiday oil should be in prison.
AG @Richard B. - I was hoping the democrats would give us a choice. Instead we get some anti-voucher campaign. I want someone in the AG's office that cares a whole lot more than being in the UEA/NEA back pocket. I am sure she is a great person, but she is running for the wrong office.
We don't need more politics then we have in the AG's office.
Ag @Arc - You have got to be kidding. He is nothing more than a bench warmer. He hasn't done anything and doesn't want to make waves. I dont care who we have. They would be better than an Ostrich with his head in the sand.
@Arc - The current AG is corrupt and has accepted gifts from people that the state later had a lawsuit against! That's unethical, but not the only reason I voted against him. He actually stated that one of the reasons he was for taking alco-pops out of the grocery stores was because "women are attracted to those sweet drinks as well". He's a male chauvenist. On top of that, he was pro-voucher despite what the majority of us wanted - and he was one of the AG's that petitioned the CA supreme court to stop gay weddings like that's any of Utah's business. Cali didn't get involved with Utah's constitutional amendment, did they? Then stay out of California's business.
Women @Rachael C. - I usually agree with you on most of your posts, but I want to add a bit of information that might explain his comment about women and the alco-pops. He has a personal tie to a child with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and knows first hand the danger of women using alcohol while pregnant. I wonder if this is what was in his mind when he made that comment?
no hope for Utah Utah has lost its way. While the rest of the worlds eyes our open to the Republican Tax and Spend philosophy. Utah Republicans like Curtis, Hughes, and Buttars are all ethical, kind people, who care to represent their constituents. Utah needs more unethical representatives to show how good they are about saying one thing and doing another. I believe it is in the 14th article of faith to be a good republican and vote for Greg Hughes and his ethical conduct. The LDS people are not following the prophet. Are we out of debt? Did we have a surplus like Pres. Clinton had? No wonder we are voting Republican in this state we don't listen close enough and follow the prophet. If you really want to see the Church progress in the United States then show some education and vote for the best person running for office. While out canvasing today for Lisa Johnson a lady told me oh I will probably vote Republican and I asked her why she didn't know why? Thats not what the prophet teaches us. Come on people wake up. Rob Bishop and Dew love Energy Solutions becuase thats where the money is at? Sound familiar to what happens in the Book of Mormon? Utah gets pushed around we are a dumping ground for nuclear waste good thing we have the word of wisdom and all the mormons didnt die from all the Nuclear testing that went on in the 50s. This is another sad day for Utah and the churchs image.
WHAT @acaringmemberofutah - who cares about what the church has to say! you dont have your own mind, this is just one thing more to the rest of america that the LDS CHURCH IS REALLY A CULT.they are alway telling you on how to run your life do as they say, were is the freedom there? I live as a american were i have the choose to vote for who i want not because my church told me to!!!
Just to let you know.... @ok why - I am an LDS church member, my leaders have never told me how or who to vote for. Nor, would they. I think you might need to check your facts. I do agree, however, that a lot of people in Utah just vote GOP and don't know what or why they are doing. They just follow blindly and that is wrong. I think that is where people that make comments like yours get the idea. Like the comment above, that is not what the church teaches. It teaches to be knowledgeable and to make educated decisions according to our conscious. I know many good LDS members that are also democrats, a lot of them more righteous than me. I know I am not voting strictly for either party. I just think that is wrong. I am not voting either way when it comes to the presidential campaign. They are both going to continue America on the path of Socialism that it has been on for the last 90 years, one of them just a little quicker than the other(IMHO).
"my leaders have never told me how or who to vote for." @Danny R. - Really?
What about in California, where your "leaders" are telling the LDS how to vote on Prop 8?
What about in Utah, over the years, where your "leaders" have besmirched Democrats, told people not to vote for liquor by the drink and spent lots of money on anti-ERA efforts. The entire reign of Ezra Taft Benson was a continuation of his John Birch Society campaigns -- and his legacy shines through right here, on this KSL message board.
If you don't think your Church is politically active, you need to open your eyes.
more than political @Layton Mom - Any time the LDS church has made a stand on a "political" issue, it has first been a moral issue. Only after much arguing among the American people have those issues become political. Even Apple, which is against Proposition 8, has said that it is a civil rights issue more than a political one (http://www.apple.com/hotnews). You can check the LDS church's position on these issues and you will see that it has never changed. The LDS church has always been outspoken on issues it deems important to the spiritual well-being of its members and also to the entire world. Just as you have a right to your own view, the LDS church has a right to its own view. The church is not forcing anyone to vote a certain way, but it is encouraging its members (and everyone else) to vote for Proposition 8. I don't hear anyone complaining about Apple, Google, and just about every celebrity giving money to and showing support for the anti-proposition 8 movement. Truth be told, they have more influence in California than the LDS church does.
Before accusing a religious organization of misconduct, please get your facts straight and also consider the "misconduct" of those on the side you're supporting.
@Rich G. - marriage became a political issue when the gov't became involved in issuing marriage licenses and giving away benefits to married folk. That's the bottom line. It's a political issue. Even if marriage was a strictly religious issue - there are still religions who would marry gay couples, and Christians would have to acknowledge that because we have freedom of religion in this country - it's one of the most important civil and constitutional right that we have as Americans. Period point blank.
The LDS church and other churches will still be able to discriminate based on their policies - they will not be forced to marry "unworthy" people...I don't know what you all are fretting over.
I agree, kind of @Rachael C. - Proposition 8 is a political issue, but it is so much more than that. If you're against gay marriage, you tend to think that it is a moral issue. If you are OKAY with gay marriage (almost no one is actually FOR it, not even Obama), then it is a civil rights issue.
Any individual or organization has the right to speak up for things they believe in and to speak against those things they feel compromise their beliefs. They do not have the right to force others to vote a certain way, but they can exert their influence through letting their opinion be known, whether that be through just making a statement or supporting a specific cause financially or otherwise. Organizations get into trouble when they attempt to speak for their members on issues that the organization has not specifically listed as a belief. So, for example, if the LDS church were to tell its members to vote for a specific candidate, that would be inappropriate because any candidate would have some beliefs that match LDS beliefs, some that the LDS church does not have a position on, and possibly some that go against LDS beliefs.
But when there is a specific issue that an organization has consistently defended or opposed, they have just as much right as an individual to support or oppose that cause in any way they feel necessary (financially, volunteering, releasing statements, contacting members of the organization, etc).
acaringmemberofutah @acaringmemberofutah - "While out canvasing today for Lisa Johnson a lady told me oh I will probably vote Republican and I asked her why she didn't know why?" That reminds me of the time I was trying to get petitions signed to keep the Walmart out of Sandy, I asked this couple about signing and the lady looked up to her husband and asked if she should. My word, don't people use their own mind in making decisions? And, I'm sure there are going to be plenty that have been told by their spouse who they should vote for.
No Brains!! @gemstone - One thing about this state of ours. People are so simple minded that they vote for the party not the person. We're suppose to be as one not split into parties. And as for the Mormon comments. I am LDS. Not an active one anymore. Got sick and tired of my husband being asked if I could take certain callings instead of asking me. And that's just one example.
No hope for Utah @acaringmemberofutah - you're right, they'll all go to church today and act holier than though, even though they voted an abortionist, marxist, terrorist lover into power. Things I don't like about McCain too, but voting for other candidates that don't stand a chance is like throwing our vote away. I'd sooner have a patriot anyday than a terrorist lover. I listened to his speech in Denver and as President he's going to disarm us because there's no proof that any of our defense shields will work when needing, what an arragant SOB, why not tell the frickin entire radical world that you'll disarm the nation. No wonder Biden said "mark my word, the USA will be attacked within 6 months of Obama's reign". Of course the terrorists will because we just told them we are going to disarm.
the clinton surplus @acaringmemberofutah - the clinton surplus was short term growth at the cost of long term stability. the nafta and his other foreign policies sent all of out agriculture and industry into foreign countries. his unwillingness to allow oil and gas production helped cement the oil cartel's power.
clinton was short term prosperity at long term stability. i would take long term stability any day. face it, we have not had a decent pres, congress or senate for close to 50 years.
not sure what you mean @Mott - I'm not sure what you mean by your comment. Your link just goes to a section of the Utah code which explains how the electoral college works here in Utah. I am assuming that you are referring to this part:
(3) Any elector who casts an electoral ballot for a person not nominated by the party of which he is an elector, except in the cases of death or felony conviction of a candidate, is considered to have resigned from the office of elector, his vote may not be recorded, and the remaining electors shall appoint another person to fill the vacancy.
Basically all that does is put into law what has been considered tradition in all states of the United States since the start of our nation. In fact, if it wasn't like that, I am sure you would be the first to complain.
Basically, by Unites States law (Utah has no say about this beyond the normal constitutional amendment process), each state has a certain number of electoral votes. Utah can decide how those votes are assigned. How it is currently in Utah, and every other state in this nation except Maine and Nebraska, is that whichever candidate receives the majority of the popular vote also receives all of the electoral votes; basically, a winner-takes-all situation.
The only thing that this law you pointed out does is make sure that the electors vote as they have been told to by the people (taking into consideration the winner-takes-all rule, which again is how nearly all states do it). Without this rule, they could all vote however they want without regard to what the people think. Is that something you want?
Utards Would vote for the dumbest guy in his graduating class and his hick moose killing sidekick as long as they had an 'R' next to their name. They have a proven track record of voting for the least qualified candidate time and again...
Dumbest guy @William J. - I think I'd sooner vote for the dumbest guy in the class than the educated idiot that aligns himself with terrorists anyday. I read in a book written by Skousen about education in America. He quoted that after a 4 year college you become a good candidate for communistic thinking. Being an old student, yes I saw that, my first essay in an environomental class that I had to take, "humans don't have the right to procreate", I've never forgotten the idiot that taught that class with his anti-American teaching. America the biggest abusers in the world, blah! blah!blah! look at what Ayers does, a terrorist, also a professor in one of our universities.
You might think Obama is really smart, but does he have any common sense? NO!!! Anyone can look smart on paper can't they.
Eileen - do you REALLY believe that? @Eileen P. - If you truly believe that Obama "aligns himself with terrorists", you need to go to the Homeland Security website and turn Obama in as a terrorist threat!
I am serious!
It is your duty as a citizen to identify terrorist threats to our nation, and turn them in to Homeland Security!
It's your duty as a patriot!
You must have PROOF of his terrorist connections - right? Maybe you could put Homeland Security on the list of people you forward all those hate-hoax emails you read and believe.
willtard j. @William J. - i am not voting for either of the idiots or their hick moose. r and d parties have failed the united states. if you feel that the d will do better than the r you are the r-tard. if you feel the r will do better than the d then you are equally the r-tard. obama vs mccain is just horrible. neither will be good for the country.
Bush has 49% approval in Utah It is embarrassing!
However, Bush's disgusting behavior as a president has been awfully good for the Democratic party.
But at such a cost...
MM
What is embarrassing @MarilynM - is the way the Democrats are treating our President. If this were 30 years ago most of the Democrats would be in prison for treason! It is ok to disagree with the President but to continually lie and distort the facts is just plain mean and wrong.
I wonder where Anerica would be today if Al Gore would have been Preident; what would he have done after 9-11, what would he have done after the worst storm in a 100 years hit New Orleans, what would he have done to secure our nation from people who want to cut your head off and stuff it down your throat, what would Al have done other than claim that America is melting the world?
Al Gore..Global What? @Dogface - re: Global Warming, reality vs Gore (he really did help us get the internet).
The earth gets cooler and warmer. IF you figure that WE are causing most of it, you have to take into account things most people don't.
0. The solar wind is at a 50 years low, which could cause global cooling.
1. The rain forests are critical. Burning and clearing rain forests are a bigger deal re: greenhouse gases than cars. Remember the Harrison
Ford ad with the tape on his chest being ripped off?
2. You have to take into account that Methane Gas, (not burned) released in to the air is much worse than burning it. Methane gas is worse than CO2 re: "greenhouse" gases.
3. You have to take into account that methane released into the atmosphere often comes from several non-man sources:
Wetlands, cows belching, termites, permafrost, etc.
Most of us are willing to agree with cleaner air, water and land, that said, I am not worried about the CO2.
I am worried about the cow belching and termites.
:)
Present Day @Dogface - Well, fortunately it's NOT 30 years ago and we have this WONDERFUL thing in this country called "Freedom of Speech". Witches are no longer being burned at stakes, and I would hope people would wake up, join us in the present day and leave the dark ages behind.
Oh MY ***** @Dogface - Dogface come on George W. Bush is a disgrace to this country and the Office of President.
Your just bent because the Republican's can't take the heat.
NO I AM NOT A DEMOCRAT BUT I FOR SURE NOT A REPUBLICAN NOT IN THIS ELECTION!!!
What is just wrong is Mr. Bush doing nothing about our Country be invaded by the Mexicans, Invading Iraq, and lying to the people about Weapons that did not and do not exsist.
I am sorry Al could not have done any worse then George
Weapons of mass destruction @Ladybandit - They did exist, look at what happened to thousands of Kurds under Hussain, what killed them all, thousands left dead in their villages, death was instant, showed children dying where they had been playing, and hopefully Hussain used all of this weaponry on them and I hope there isn't going to be any more.
Let's not forget congress agreed to go into Iraq, Bush didn't do it on his own. Powell went to the UN to plead his case why we needed to be there.
I don't like to listen to anyone who bad mouths our president and accuses him of things that they know little about. Americans are becoming so disrespectful of the Presidency, no wonder you don't care about patriotism any more, no wonder you'd sooner have an anti-American as President. Makes sense now. You hate anyone that's patriotic. I won't apologize for being a die hard American who loves this country, I've lived through Nixon, Carter onwards and I've seen our country go up and down, but yet I'm still a patriotic American. Unlike people today who look for excuses all of the time and buy in to the nonsense that America isn't as great as it used to be.
Badmouthing the President @Eileen P. - Wondering what you will be doing on January 20 ,2009 when THAT ONE Barack Hussein Obama is President of the United States?. Patriotism is fine but it shouldnt be brain dead patriotism where you think elected officials are beyond criticism. America maybe isnt as great as it once was . Having a huge debt to the People Republic of China isnt exactly all that great
Bush @MarilynM - Pres. Bush might not have been the best we could have had, but he was and is a whole lot better than the democrats have proposed the last 16 years.
(Not counting Lieberman. I was impressed with him when he was running for VP. Too bad he had a tweeb for a running mate).
"he was and is a whole lot better than the democrats have proposed the last 16 years" @Arc - Someone has had their head in the sand for the past 16 years. If Bush is the best Republican money can buy, you need to start paying more....
I didn't say that.. @William J. - I said Bush was better than anything the Democrats have sent to DC for president or to try to become president for the last 16 years.
specifics @MarilynM - what has Bush done??? I'd really like to know because you democrats are sounding like a broken record. You think having a full democratic senate with a witch at the head as the speaker, is the way to go. Bush hasn't hurt me one bit, my income has doubled, may taxes haven't really increased and the unemployment rate in Utah is less than 2%. Okay the war isn't popular, but then again neither was Vietnam, WWII, Korean, the list goes on, there's always been Americans that have turned on their troops in every war. I for one, don't buy it. My oldest son under Bush has opened up 2 businesses, he was 18 when he started the first one, he's doing well but under Obama's idiotic plan he'll probably be out of business. Bush made it possible for him to do this, to be an entrepeneur, if you work hard, then you'll be rewarded. Under Obama, you work hard he'll take your profit and spread it around. Small businesses will cease to exist.
Oh and I'm not a straight republican either, but this time it was obvious which side of the fence I was going to cast my vote. I voted for real change, not Obama's lies of change, you all hate Bush because he expanded government 50% and what's Obama going to do, yes right, expand it again, is this chsnge?? McCain wants to reduce government. Also why would I want to vote for any man that isn't in line with my religion, sorry I'm not for abortion, especially full term partial birth abortions, also I'm against same sex marriage and Obama want's to teach our kindergarteners Prince marries Prince. Come on Utah'ns are you all really this stupid, doesn't your religion mean anything to you.
.. @DAG YO! - Both parties need all the help they can get. And its going to stay that way till they BOTH can learn to move to the center and work together.
funny All i hear from people in utah is they want a change but everyone is still voting for the people that are still in office! Now tell how that is a change?
Yeah Army Ranger 1969 @The Army Ranger 1969 - We the people need to take back our country!! We need to refuse to do business with companies who employee illegal (they are very easy to spot) demand to deal with Americans or take you business down the street.
I called to have my carpet cleaned and when I told the company do not send people to my home who speak Spanish that I can't talk to. She said she was very sorry but she didn't have any English speaking staff members. SO I CALLED THE NEXT COMPANY, THEN THE NEXT AND THEY HAD AMERICANS they could sent to my home.
English.. @Ladybandit - I really don't care what country they originally came from. I do want people to be in the US legally.
I have friends from all over the world.
I work in the construction field. Many people also speak Spanish. As long as they speak English as well, I get along fine.
What if it were Hitler vs. Stalin? We could have Hitler and Stalin running against each other and most folks here would still insist on voting for the lesser of evils, as they arbitrarily determine it.
If it were Hitler and Stalin running, they'd still be excusing the evil that their favorite despot wrought and they'd still only be outraged by the evil committed by the other guy.
If it were Hitler and Stalin running, would readers here even consider voting for the alternative Third party candidates that COULD be elected -- who even have the necessary ballot access...?
No! They wouldn't do that -- not even to save their country -- because... because....
WHAT DO YOU MEAN? @carolm62 - THEY ARE ALREADY RUNNING ARE STATE.
Why do you think we have the weird laws around here?
Next thing you know the'll be telling us to go to bed at 10 a clock. and if are lights are not out we willl finded 25 dollars. and up to 10 days in jail.
The huh? comments say it all! @carolm62 - As our presidential candidates become scarier and scarier the electorate continues to defend their tyrant of choice -- all the while saying his opponent is the worst candidate ever, the latter half of which is true.
Why are Americans so willing to be led carefully down to hell? Why won't they say no to BOTH major parties? It's not like they don't have a choice....
"I know it was you Fredo... You broke my heart." The thing that bothers me most... is that the Utah Republicans don't really even understand what they are Republicans for.
Utah is the redest state in the country. They only vote republican. If they listen to what each candidate had to say and not what their church was telling them we might be better off...(In the state of Utah)
I'm LDS & Republican... @Tbone987` - and you're wrong. Every election cycle the "Church" issues a neutrality statement that basically tells people to vote their conscience. Or as I interpret; vote the person, not the party.
Sadly, too many LDS are in a bad habit of voting along party lines. I agree that a dominant party breeds corruption. But I helped vote Aaron Tilton out of my districtin the primaries-he was poised to make millions on Nuke power.
I only hope that right thinking voters can get rid of the likes of Hughes, Curtis, Morley etc. Too many state rep's are making "bank" in the legislature, and not just to campaign coffers, but personal wealth!
Utah county R's are an embarrassment. Utah Co. has a 3 party system, Dem's, Republicans and the Eagle Forum party.
not at all correct. @Tbone987` - i vote for people who will do a good job in office. the party system is broken and unable to support the people. i don't want obama in office because with a democratic congress, he (and congress) will have free reign to a massive spending spree. they obama and congress) are going to increase taxes, implement gun control, push a faulty health care system, let foreign affairs go in the toilet, not take care of illegal immigration, further destroy the economy and not take care of the real issues facing the nation.
i know what obama has "promised", but if you look at the records when ever a party owned (republican and democrat) congress and presidential seat take power, spending goes crazy and the u.s.a. public gets ignored.
Thank God for Utah @Tbone987` - The last place that is normal in the U.S.
Why dont you move to California or Mass. ?
When it comes to liberals like Obaaaama, I say, tell it to the hand.
Vote the clowns out of office! You know how, when you go to vote, you are presented with a long list of names, and are asked "Should the honorable so and so remain in office" or whatever?
It's not far that that question only applies to judges. I think that question should apply to EVERY SINGLE CANDIDTATE on the ballot!
"Should the following politicians remain in office?"
"NOPE!"
"UH UH!"
"PSHHHYEAH, IN YOUR DREAMS!!! NOPE!"
"ARE YOU KIDDING? NOPE!!!!"
"I DON'T THINK SO!!! NOPE!"
"Oh [no swearing please]!"
"NOPE!"
"NOPE!"
GET THE TRUTH! Tired of commercials and corporate TV? Want the truth? Watch Democracy Now on Link TV, or go onto their website - democracynow.org. Check it out and then decide for yourselves without the brainwashing!
Just this: over 95% of the money in the US is owned and/or controlled by less than %10 of the population -hmmmm? Just something to think about!
uhm... @John Adrian - i do not believe in the redistribution of wealth. i do not believe in giving something to someone unless they have worked for it. buy giving something to someone who hasn't earned it breeds demanding and lazy people. that is not to say that i lack compassion. i just don't support giving money to people why "mooch" the system.
We should change the name of this state to "Landslide" Good gawd, every race is a friggin' blowout. It's worse than watching most televised college football games. It's almost as if utahns totally shut out all other points of view other than the incumbents. Wow, I knew utah was loaded with government worshipers but this is ridiculous. Every incumbent is winning as if they were anointed from heaven or something. It doesn't matter the party either because in utah, if you're an incumbent, the public is asleep and too cowardly to challenge you. Wow. Mccain is effectively an incumbent because A. he's a senator and B. he's a clone of Bush. Chaffetz is the only exception to what I'm saying, but that's only because Chris Cannon is positively the WORST congress-turd and liar to ever claim to represent us (he constantly lied about his support for amnesty and lied to my face about being compassionate for the sick and dying who need medical marijuana).
Bottom line: the fact that every incumbent is winning in a massive blowout is proof that utahns default to government employees in a very dangerous way. Horiuchi needs to be shown the door but he won't be. The bonds need to be defeated but they won't be. Government just wins and wins and wins in this mindless state of sheep.
i want new pres candidates... i don't like either of them. neither pres candidate will do any good for this nation. the biggest problem with obama is that we have a democratic congress... can anyone say spending spree? i also don't like either health care program, nor does either of them have a decent foreign policy. we are in for a rough 4 year ride no matter who gets into office.
Rough 4 year ride? @Stubbs - Stubbs, what do you think the last 8 year ride has been? More of the same with McCain. Obama has the rough 4 years ahead of his self picking up this mess.
i think that with a dem pres and dem congess we lack a check @ByGeorge - look at what pres. bush did at the first of his presidency with a republic congress backing him. it was these latter years of his term that some sort of spending management (other than the bail out bill) came into play. it is when we have a pres and a congress fighting that spending doesn't go bananas.
if you think that obama and a democratic congress aren't going to take advantage of the situation to push taxes and bill you are up in the night.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democrat Barack Obama's lead over Republican rival John McCain firmed marginally to 6 points with support for both candidates steady before Tuesday's U.S. presidential election, according to a Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby poll released on Sunday.
We HAVE BEEN A SOCIALISTS STATE @MisterT - giving everything to the RICH AND THE BUSINESS OWNERS, which are the same. it is called CORPORATE WELFARE and hundreds of time more costly than any welfare program the people ever had.
MisterT @MisterT - If it's a choice between socialism and what we have now - which can also be defined as socialims - only my taxes are going to the most wealthy - I'll take the former socialism in a hot second. I'm tired of my hard earned money going to the top, while I'm praying that an emergency doesn't happen so that I won't have to sell everything I own just to cover it.
I'm pretty sure that the majority are feeling the way I am too. The term socialism doesn't scare us. The American tax system is socialism by definition.
and you think dems care? @Red neck - both parties have lost their way. neither party cares about the u.s.a. voting red or blue because they are red or blue just ensures that you get crap into office.
it is JUST A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL the demographics change in utah like it has in most other western states to become DEMOCRATIC , then and only then will the working class have a chance for a decent life in UTAH, now they are being suppressed, overtaxed and with the compassionate influx of ILLEGALs being encouraged to migrate here to compete aginst the working class for jobs TO KEEP THE PAY DOWN and HEALTH CARE DOWN the working class is sick of this abuse and the will COME OUT IN RECORD NUMBERS on 4 Nov and a CHANGE WILL OCCUR, not only on a national level but in STATE GOVERNMENT AS WELL
yeh sure pal @MyOpinion4U - a chicken in every pot.
and we should all have the same things no matter how hard we work.
Lets just take away incentive to do better and get a better life, and trade it for a check from the government. A world where everyone gets the same thing with no opportunity to do better.
Sounds like the promise of Socialism or even Communisms Collectivism concept.
As long as humans are involved, all systems are corrupt.
Politicians lie in order to achieve office so that they can exploit the system.
Corporations are in charge, not governments.
Get your head out of the sand.
You are NOT MY PAL @Tj N. - ok bucko, a response to each and every idiotic comment you made.
- no make it a huge steak, poor have been eating chicken long enough.
- the poor have been working hard for 8 years and NONE OF THE WEALTH HAS TRICKLED DOWN YET, THE greedy rich have KEPT IT ALL.
- The rich have been living under a socialists republican government for 8 years now getting government welfare to the tune of BILLIONS , hundreds of times more than any welfare program people ever had.
- YES YOU ARE RIGHT, corporations have been in charge for 8 years now and THAT IS ABOUT TO STOP.
Now obama will go after all the rich hiding their money in Swiss bank accounts, the swiss banker who set those accounts over had turned THOUSANDS OF NAMES OVER TO THE GOVENMENT, obviously bush has DID NOTHING, but obama WILL and it will be MORE THAN JUST PAYING TAXES ON ALL THAT MONEY TOO.
Also, for the 68 percent of BUSINESS's who have been identified FOR NEGLECTING TO PAY any taxes in the last 4 years. obama WILL fix that too. PLUS over turn all the thousands of corrupt laws THAT DEGRULATING industry to ABUSE PEOPLE AND take GREED MONEY from them. the end is NEAR. goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo OBAMA
Comrade MyOp @MyOpinion4U - Have you noticed the panic coming from the foreigners? Like Cuban Americans, or Hispanics with family in or near Venezuala? They can see Obama for who he really is. Another Hugo Chavez/Castro.
Rush called it right Friday: Rather than call Obama a marxist or socialist, call him an authoritarian. Seizing money as you suggest won't just be from "swiss banks", it'll be YOUR account. And just like his peanut butter at recess-he'll be "spreading it around".
Curious, does a greedy "Corporation" sign your pay check?
Obama's "Change" will be disastrous for the productive and give a little "Hope" to the non-Productive. But the end result=everyone non productive, enslaved to entitlements.
For those still living in your mom's basement playing video games-your day is here.

Planet Utah the same state that favored... Mitt Romney and Bob Dole. Truly a little bubble floating out in political space.
Even if Obama were somehow able to achieve everything he promises many Utahn's would still hate him and would vote for for someone else in the next election.
They like cutting off their noses just to spite their faces...
Neither Party has the answer. All they do is fight among themselves and never get anything done, all they do is divide the country. George Washington was right when he would not join any party and said that Political Parties would divide the country. If you don't see that happening you are very blind. I think both parties are to blame for this, the only way this can change is for us to vote out all the Incumbents.
I am not affiliated with any party.Alot of what is going on is all of who vote because we let these Politicians become Professional Politicians. There should never be a Professional Politician, because they mess our great Country up. You going to set there and tell me Ted Kennedy is a great man, he is is one of our biggest problems in Washington. He has been there way to long, we have a couple of Senators in our own state that have been in Washington to long.
That is our problem, we let these people stay to long and they get to comfortable. That is why we need to get rid of Incumbents. They stay to long they forget why they went there, and just care about themselves.
repub vs dem from what i can tell democrats want a large government to control the wealth and population. republicans want smaller government, but want big business to reign supreme. so which do you want, corrupt business ruling or corrupt politicians ruling? either way we are doomed. both parties' ultimate goal is to rule the people. people need to rule the government not business, special interest groups or lobbyists. what i see with both pres candidates is the same that we have had - complete garbage.
Republican party in disarray Granted the Republican party is not what it used to be. Both Repub and Dems have their "pet projects" and both parties waste WAY too much money! I just wish the federal govt had to live on a budget like everybody else does. I have always voted Republican (and I did this year as well). I'm not excited about either candidate, but I feel that Obama's far left wing ideas are not what this country needs right now. In this economy, the last thing we need is a tax increase and more govt regulation. Obama will bring about change for sure...but as the saying goes, "you'd better be careful what you wish for because you may just get it". I think that too many Americans are looking to Washington for their properity. The fact is...the person that can most impact your livelihood is YOU! It's time to start taking responsibility for your own actions.
It comes down to one fundamental question..who do you want to be responsible for you and your family's future..YOU or Washington, D.C.? I have little faith in Washington's ability to handle the taxpayer's dollars. Example: Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac!
Obama This will take a few minutes to read -- I've been wondering about the 'dark' 'unreported' past of Obama. VERY interesting!
To All My Friends, this is long, but very important, please take the time to read.
This election has me very worried. So many things to consider. About a year ago I would have voted for Obama. I have changed my mind three times since than. I watch all the news channels, jumping from one to another. I must say this drives my husband crazy. But, I feel if you view MSNBC, CNN, and Fox News, you might get some middle ground to work with.
About six months ago, I started thinking 'where did the money come from for Obama'. I have four daughters who went to College, and we were middle class, and money was tight. We (including my girls) worked hard and there were lots of student loans. I started looking into Obama's life.
Around 1979 Obama started college at Occidental in California. He is very open about his two years at Occidental, he tried all kinds of drugs and was wasting his time but, even though he had a brilliant mind, did not apply himself to his studies. 'Barry' (that was the name he used all his life) during this time had two roommates, Muhammad Hasan Chandoo and Wahid Hamid, both from Pakistan. During the summer of 1981, after his second year in college, he made a 'round the world' trip. Stopping to see his mother in Indonesia, next Hyderabad in India, three weeks in Karachi, Pakistan where he stayed with his roommate's family, then off to Africa to visit his father's family.
My question - Where did he get the money for this trip? Neither I, nor any one of my children would have had money for a trip like this when they where in college.
When he came back he started school at Columbia University in New York. It is at this time he wants everyone to call him Barack - not Barry. Do you know what the tuition is at Columbia? It's not cheap, to say the least. Where did he get money for tuition? Student Loans? Maybe.
After Columbia, he went to Chicago to work as a Community Organizer for $12,000. a year. Why Chicago? Why not New York? He was already living in New York.
By 'chance' he met Antoin 'Tony' Rezko, born in Aleppo Syria, and a real estate developer in Chicago. Rezko has been convicted of fraud and bribery this year. Rezko, was named 'Entrepreneur of the Decade' by the Arab-American Business and Professional Association'. About two years later, Obama entered Harvard Law School. Do you have any idea what tuition is for Harvard Law School? Where did he get the money for Law School? More student loans?
After Law school, he went back to Chicago. Rezko offered him a job, which he turned down. But, he did take a job with Davis, Miner, Barnhill & Galland. Guess what? They represented 'Rezar' which Rezko's firm. Rezko was one of Obama's first major financial contributors when he ran for office in Chicago. In 2003, Rezko threw an early fundraiser for Obama which Chicago Tribune reporter David Mendelland claims was instrumental in providing Obama with 'seed money' for his U.S. Senate race.
In 2005, Obama purchased a new home in Kenwood District of Chicago for $1.65 million (less than asking price). With ALL those Student Loans - Where did he get the money for the property? On the same day Rezko's wife, Rita, purchased the adjoining empty lot for full price. The London Times reported that Nadhmi Auchi, an Iraqi-born Billionaire loaned Rezko $3.5 million three weeks before Obama's new home was purchased. Obama met Nadhmi Auchi many times with Rezko.
Now, we have Obama running for President. Valerie Jarrett, was Michele Obama's boss. She is now Obama's chief advisor and he does not make any major decisions without talking to her first. Where was Jarrett born? Ready for this? Shiraz, Iran! Do we see a pattern here? Or am I going crazy?
On May 10, 2008 The Times reported, Robert Malley advisor to Obama was 'sacked' after the press found out he was having regular contacts with 'Hamas', which
controls Gaza and is connected with Iran. This past week, buried in the back part of the papers, Iraqi newspapers reported that during Obama's visit to Iraq, he asked their leaders to do nothing about the war until after he is elected, and he will 'Take care of things'.
Oh, and by the way, remember the college roommates that were born in Pakistan? They are in charge of all those 'small' Internet campaign contributions for Obama. Where is that money coming from? The poor and middle class in this country? Or could it be from the Middle East?
And the final bit of news. On September 7, 2008, The Washington Times posted a verbal slip that was made on 'This Week' with George Stephanapoulos. Obama on talking about his religion said, 'My Muslim faith'. When questioned, 'he made a mistake'. Some mistake!
All of the above information I got on line. If you would like to check it - Wikipedia, encyclopedia, Barack Obama; Tony Rezko; Valerie Jarrett: Daily Times - Obama visited Pakistan in 1981; The Washington Times - September 7, 2008; The Times May 10, 2008.
Now the BIG question - If I found out all this information on my own, Why haven't all of our 'intelligent' members of the press been reporting this? A phrase that keeps ringing in my ear - 'Beware of the enemy from within'!!!
WOW @Think4yourself - is right! After all of that information and that is your comment. This is the reason Obama will win, people DON'T CARE what this guy has done, what he hasn't done, what he thinks, what he says, what he is planning.
Unbelievable.
Use your brain vote McCain.
Acually I have @Ceedoubleu - and I am not all that impressed with McCain, but Obama is a radical leftist and his supreme court justice choices that he and McCain differ on is my deciding factor. Taxation and all the other garbage issues that they are campaigning on is the least of my concerns. I want my liberty and constitution protected
Just some info from the Wikipedia @Carolyn A. - "During this period in Florida, McCain had extramarital affairs, and the McCains' marriage began to falter, for which he later would accept blame"...interesting that you didn't bring this up.
"Also that year, he opposed creation of a federal Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, but admitted in 2008: "I was wrong and eventually realized that, in time to give full support [in 1990] for a state holiday in Arizona"...interesting that you didn't bring this up.
"McCain became enmeshed in a scandal during the 1980s as one of five United States Senators comprising the so-called Keating Five.[98] Between 1982 and 1987, McCain had received $112,000 in lawful[99] political contributions from Charles Keating Jr. and his associates"...did you find much on this?
"McCain announced his candidacy for president on September 27, 1999 in Nashua, New Hampshire, saying he was staging "a fight to take our government back from the power brokers and special interests, and return it to the people and the noble cause of freedom it was created to serve"...Sound like the message this time around...
"Incensed,[140] McCain ran ads accusing Bush of lying and comparing the governor to Bill Clinton, which Bush said was "about as low a blow as you can give in a Republican primary"...Still doing the same tactics now
Please come with something better and present both sides.
Mccains @Ceedoubleu - Past is all a matter of public record, from his good points to his bad choices they are all there for the entire country to read. Then again Mccain doesnt have the media guarding his past.
More questions @Say what - You put a lot of effort into your post so I will try to reply with some respect for the work you did.
First off, you are trying to create an argument based on questions not facts. "Where did this money come from?" "Where did this other money come from?" "I don't know how he paid for this?" "See a pattern?"
Yes, I do see a pattern. The pattern is that you think that the fact that you don't know something creates some kind of meaningful argument. So you don't know and you have some questions. Great. An honest person waits for answers to draw conclusions. A fraud tries to draw conclusions from the absence of those facts. Again, I have absolutely no problem with your curiosity or your research. But the fact that your research is incomplete and that you don't have the information you need would require any reasonable person to suspend judgment until the facts were available. You do the opposite. You identify the areas where you don't know what you are talking about and then jump to conclusions. It is a sad example of sloppy reasoning and a lack of intellectual integrity and rigor.
McCain has put together a transition team- should he win- which is lead by Bill Timmons, Saddam Hussein's former employee and lobbyist. He also has ties to individuals at least as corrupt as Rezko.
You ask some questions. I suggest that you find answers and then make up your mind. Or at least, don't admit to everybody that you are the type that jumps to conclusions based on suspicions, prejudice, paranoia, and lack of facts and then try to be pursuasive. Finally, if you are going to try to be convincing, you should examine both sides objectively, using the same standards. Otherwise you just seem like a biased, partisan mouthpiece, willing to criticize everything from one side while gleefully swallowing everything the other side spoon feeds you.
No debt Get out of debt,
stay our of debt,
dont go into debt,
for anything.
Force this country to get off fiat-money.
If you think the economy and its monetary system is bad now, just wait until we have a International monetary system.
This system would be enforced by the UN and would need a global tax structure. And what better way to pay for this system than a carbon tax.

The ideology of Freedom Force is individualism, the opposite of collectivism at every point. Individualists advocate honest elections, a competitive media, an educational system responsive to parents, encouragement of free speech, a well-armed citizenry, sound money, freedom-of-choice in health care, a non-interventionist foreign policy, and national sovereignty.

Moral values Obama is Pro full birth abortion. When confronted about his history and real position he flat out lied about it. Obama stated that bringing a second doctor in to make a judgment call on a living breathing baby which the woman wanted aborted is infringing on the rights of a the woman. This is total wickedness. I'm a Christian and I believe in the commandment "Thou Shall not kill."
McCain is Pro life. And always has been.
For me this is a Moral vote. When I don't like either candidate my vote will always go to my core values.
Only one moral? @Love2Help - What about others like bankrupting our country and leaving unexploded cluster bombs laying around for little children to pick up?
You may be Christian but you also have a very narrow view of morality.
Stupid Repblican Horde. This just proves my long held belief that Utahans are the stupidest voters in the Nation. How can George W. Bush still have that high of a rating here in Zion? Sheep. Sheep. Sheep.
Steven @Steven P. - Do you live in Utah? Are you just a wolf in sheeps clothing? If you live her then that makes you stupid also. No matter who you vote for your a Utahan. So it just depends on what Utahans are the stupidest. My thinking it's you. There for if you dont like it move to Kenya.
dear say what @Say what - you sound like a little baby, whining and throwing distasteful remarks because someone doesn't agree with your logic.
You use the same song and dance...how many thousands of times do we have to hear "if you don't like it move to..." anywhere but Utah.
I'm not stupid for living in Utah nor is anyone else that decides to relocate here. WE could turn the tables and say your stupid for staying...but we don't because we are intelligent and well-informed Americans.
Please go back under your rock and republican rhetoric and continue to vote for ingoramous individuals.
You will always do and say and be the same unless you think OUTSIDE of your own little world.
Until then - you stay in place and the rest of us Utahns will choose to have hope for a better future.
Rebecca @Rebecca D. - Sounds like calling the kettle black. Talk about a whine. I think you are one that has been relocated here. Trouble is you left you brain from where ever it is you came from. I suggest looking in Frisco first. If that dont work sign up for a moon mission. By the way I stick my my guns, no used to cuss Utahans that have been here all there lives with Utah values and ther beliefs. And I really like the rock I live under.
How can Nancy Pelosi @Steven P. - and the democratic congress even be considered for re-election after what we have witnessed of them for the last two years? With the possibility of Obama at the helm lets talk about sheep shall we? People need to look to congress for budgeting. Congress decides what to spend our money on, they are rubbing their hands together in anticipation of their soon to be new spending spree.
Americans will work for the gorvernment through taxation. Makes me really want to continue working overtime or maybe get that second job now don't it.
Dang it, I need to stop being selfish and unpatriotic cuz I don't want the government to take more of what I earn, they spend it so wisely. My family isn't important and doesn't come first. I should joyfully, patriotically, vote for the politician that will take more of my hard earned money and distribute to whom ever they think should have it. As if we can never give enough. Thats okay as long as the the messiah Obama and his congress decides where my money is going to go I'll know its for the best right?
I'll just fight the good fight for the American Dream he inspires me so to do so you know.
This is a human that can move people to act, feel, and have hope... I have never in my lifetime seen a politician bring out so much emotion from people. Positive emotions... I have seen one bring out alot of negitive emotions...(Bush). I encourage all of you to strip away the titles and look at the plans of each canidate. Then put yourself in others shoes and look at it from their eyes. Please vote with care. My children and your grandchildren depend on it.
Obama, Obama, Obama, Obama, Can't wait for Obama.
Starbucks is giving out a free cup of coffee on Nov 4th after you vote!!! Yeah for us coffee drinkers babay!!
nobama @Bessie - brings out positive emotions?
keep drinking that starbucks it must contain the secret nobama ingredient to make you all hallucinate.......hummm maybe I will get me some~ lol
How exciting it would be for out state to turn Blue!! It gives me goosebumps just thinking about it!! With how green Utah is finally becoming, it makes sense for Utah to be blue. Can't be green without a little blue.. It's coming.. Don't be surprised if we go blue this time.. Exciting,Obama, Obama, Obama...
why do you certen utahns dont get it!? we sided with bush jr. for 2 terms & look what he has brought us! Why would anyone vote for someone that approves 90% of bushes bills? Bush was the worst president in history....we do not need another to follow him.
Just look at America! I'm not sticking up for Bush but people need to quit the blaming game. If you can't pay your mortgage you shouldn't have bought such and expensive house. If you think you haven't been safe for the last eight years I don't know where you have been livin etc. etc. I am tired of hearing how terrible America is and we need Change Change Change. I hate to break it to all of you mesiah waiting individuals but Obama isn't going to fix all your problems and make your life great, get over it allready. We will be hearing in 4 years how he needs another 4 years to fix you up. And I'm sure the complainers that are complaining now will be complaining then.
McCain McCain is NOT Bush, neither will he have the same 8 years as Bush. That's B.S. I'll take 4 years of McCain versus 4 Years of ties to a former leader of the violent left-wing activist group the Weather Underground, Rashid Khalidi, no proof of U.S. citizenship (obamacrimes.com) and questionable allegiance to the U.S. McCain may not be the best - the best didn't get the popular vote - but he's certainly not going to give this great country to our enemies.
However, the way the world is nowadays, maybe people deserve to have an Obama as their leader. Everybody blames Bush now, which is also stupid. It's not Bush that make ALL the decisions and Clinton left a big mess for Bush. Clinton, who formerly was not for Obama, is now kissing his butt. Hypocrites.
Tjn chicken in every pot!!!!! do you know who spoke those words? It was Herbert Hoover who was the President of this country when the Great Depression started. who was a republican.
We had had 3 republican Pres. in a rwo and by the time Hoover was in there the rich people had doomed our country. If it hadn't been for FDR who got us out of the depression, where would our country be. In all of the depressions, recessions the republicans have been in power. That tells me that they don't know how to handle the economy and I am ready for someone different. I have listened to all of the scare tactics that McCain and Palin have been spouting and others who speak for them. And I am no longer afraid of Obama. I have listened to him and he sounds like he has a good head on his shoulders and will be the CHANGE we need. For those afraid of him . I don't think he can ruin our country in 4 years any worse than Bush has done in 8 years.
This Election Is Decided But you can do something good with your vote.
I expect that most Utahns who are voting for Obama are true believers in the concept of aggressively confiscating the property of others to serve their own purposes, so I won't address their vote, even though it will be effectively stolen from them by the electoral college, but whatever....
But Utah Republicans can help get their wildly astray Republican Party back on track. The only remaining way way to persuade the GOP to exercise an ounce of introspection is to vote for the parties who advocate small government -- either the Libertarian or Constitution Parties. The Republican Party is no longer a practitioner of these principles, though they still like to say they are.
You need to stand up and say no, or, like a spoiled child, the GOP will only get more out of control. But unlike that spoiled child you are going to have to believe in the concept of delayed gratification -- and be willing to lose this round.
Exercise some tough love. We survived Clinton. We can survive Obama too.
Hypocrites Who is a hypocrite. McCain said he would run a clean campaign. Boy that is WRONG. He has been worse than Bush was to him in 2000 and 2004. When I listen to McCain I don't hear how he is going to take care of the economy. He speaks of doing this and that and pushing that Joe the Plumber down our throats. That man is evading paying his taxes. Had his drivers license taken because he doesn't pay his fines, he has no license to be a plumber and McCain says he is taking him to Washington. What is he going to do , Have him run the economy??? Please!!!!!! McCain no more knows what he is doing or will do if he would get to be President. I am afraid of what he will do. He cheated on his wife, if he can do that then I dont trust him in the first place.
Look Betty @Betty K. - Neither of them ran clean campaigns. It is not intellectually honest to dismiss what is inconvenient about Obama and then come down only on the other side.
The truth is that Democrats and Republicans have the SAME foreign policy. Obama will NOT be bringing anyone home from Iraq. I fully anticipate that you will disagree with me on that point, but remember this prediction. You'll see....
McCain and Obama voted the same on the bailout. If you look at the roots of that philosophy, you'll see that their economic ideas are fundamentally the same.
you all need to get a grip How is it that the first several pages of comments don't even talk about the subject of the article. Then you all went on to hating Mormons here in Utah. After all that, there was only one post that actually posted facts. And it was blasted for only refrencing one article from the NY Times. That was one of the stupidest comments I have ever heard. If you think that any major news outlet is interested in the truth you are wrong. I have been involved in too many events they have reported on to ever believe them. You just keep believing that the NY Times, Washington Post, MSNBC, and CNN tell the truth. That way you will stay an idiot and I will always have someone dumber that me.
WOW!!! So many Obama Lover's Are we voting for a President or a celebrity? C'mon!! Look at his track record in Illinois. I'm not saying I like McCain either but, I have an Idean what to expect from him. Obama in the other hand scares me. Americas want "CHANGE" the real question is what KIND of "CHANGE"? That's what scary! Anyway...This are hard times. We should focus on the real issues and that's keeping our country safe!
Oh Betty, you had better keep track of both sides if you are going to start throwing stones. First, the second worst economic disaster in US history was provided by none other than your buddy, Jimmy Carter. By the way, he is the only former president to ever publicly critisize the sitting president. Not even Bill Clinton has done that, and we all know how low he stooped. Speeking of which, did you condem Billy boy as harshly and ask him to step down after his affair with a subordinate, and lying to a federal grand jury about it. And everybody knows that it wasn't the first time. And by the way, as hard as Mathews/Oberman tried to convict him of it, the McCain alligation was unfounded and false. For that intrugue, you will have to go after you little buddy, Jon Edwards.
This republican is Voting for leadership YES OBAMA! He could be one of the greatest presidents we have ever had!!! I also like Mcaine but he is not ready to run this country right now! OBAMA yes
Electoral College Having lived in Utah for 30 years and not being part of the Republican majority, I am getting used to being frustrated when I vote for a Democrat for president. Many states have changed policies so that electoral votes are split between candidates. This seems a good compromise - everyone's vote would count. It's pretty hard to keep voting when you know your vote doesn't count in Utah. Why doesn't Utah change their policy? Is the Replublican majority so afraid of a few Democrat votes that it won't even consider changing? If we keep the electoral college at all, states should have to split their votes so that so many don't feel disenfranchised. In other states the Republicans are a minority, so it would benefit either party.
Define "many" @didgma - While I would not be opposed to splitting electoral votes, I do disagree with you on the phrase "many states". As of now, only 2 states (Maine and Nebraska) do not follow the winner-takes-all process of determining electoral votes. Even in those states, though, each district follows a winner-takes-all process after which they also have two votes determined by the state's popular vote. Some states have recently introduced legislation to change the electoral vote process (most notably California and Colorado), but none have been successful (the Colorado measure was defeated and the latest California measure did not receive enough signatures to make it to the ballot).
There are definitely both advantages and disadvantages to the electoral college system and to the winner-take-all process of choosing electoral votes. This can be a great discussion, but if we want something changed, that's what voting is for. Hope to see you at the polls!
I voted Libertarian for President and Governor... Voting McCain is pointless, since he'll win in Utah. Voting Obama is pointless, since he'll lose (and I wouldn't have voted for him anyway). At least a Libertarian vote gives a 3rd party some recognition, in the hope that someday we'll have another choice.
And I just want SuperDell for Governor. So shoot me.
some of you actually got interesting with your comments. Nikond, did you think about that one. 8 years with the state senate in wich he voted present over 130 times. Trend continued in the federal system. You have to be able to make a stand and a decision to lead. He does talk a good game, but the numbers don't add up. Didgma, you couldn't be more right. I am part of the "Republican Majority", and I am telling you that you couldn't be more right. Too bad there are only two states in the country that feel as we do. But I have an even better idea. Get rid of the electorate all together. It's days of usefulness are long gone. Go straight popular vote and then every vote really counts. And the fact is that it would be no more corruptable than the current system. ACORN is proving that.
TJ. N. You are absolutely right. We need to be doing the opposite of what both parties are urging us to do.
They somehow think the way to overcome this economic disaster is for each of to incur more debt -- as if more debt is the way to become financially solvent. The government is thrashing around blindly. We need to do the opposite.
Get out of debt.
Live well within your means.
Save for a rainy day.
I hope Utahns... Are smart enough NOT to vote for the middle eastern terrorist, diaper head, Osama Hussein Obamanation!
Be very careful. Remember what happened to Russia when they murdered the Czar?
True Americans understand what I'm talking about.
The rest of you are clueless SHEEP!
THE THING IS...... that the division of the country into democrats and republicans is the thing stopping this country from being truly great. are we any better off this way than we were at the time of the civil war??? north v south reps v dems its the same thing. when you go to vote on tuesday vote for what people stand for not their party affiliation. I punched my ticket on friday Obama-pres dem, huntsman-gov rep , shurtleff- att gen.rep, bowen district 1 dem, Its time for change in this country and this straight party voting is the main thing that has to change elect the right people for the right job!! it is no different than looking for the right person to fill a postion at my company should i hire on the basis of some party affiliation NO!!!!!! vote the right person for the right job.
I think the division @jaysul - results from the very legitimate fear of what the "other" party will do to them once in office.
Of course, if both major parties operated within the bounds of the constitution there would be no such fear, since the constitution does not allow the government to harm ANYONE.
Sorry, we are not accepting new comments on this story.
KSL's public inspection files, including the Children's Television Programming Reports and the DTV Quarterly Activity Station Report, are available for viewing during regular office hours at the KSL Broadcast House.
It doesn’t matter anyway; the Democrats will be in charge.
You folks in Utah County need to stay out of politics.
What happens in Provo needs to stay in Provo.
Leave us normal folks alone.
laughed out loud on that one. Maybe by rest of the world you mean Utah. I love how we now live in this world where if you arent a bible thumping republican conservative then your some sort of socialist or communist or outright evil human being. Hillarious.
http://extras.sltrib.com/bagley/content/10302008.jpg
But KSL chooses NOT to report on that and instead tells us that Obama has broken 30% in Utah?!?!?!?!?
Gosh Tom, if I didn't know any better, I'd swear you were describing the ruling majority in in this state.
Troll away.
Divided we fall.
Utah is in the top two states in the nation for fiscal responsibility and has three cities in the top ten for livability.
Is that because we all support Democratic Values like the ones you see in the back of the butt wipe newspapers downtown? Mrs. Wilson should be ashamed to publish such trash!
Avoid him as you would avoid a poisonous serpent!
Party is good as is - --- buyer beware... not even close.
http://www.zogby.com/
I routinely refuse to respond to them.
Sad commentary about our great media huh...
...sigh
Watching the debates, he is smart, and can talk.
No it is about taking out the garbage. Really good article.
You forgot that the democrat said Jesus would vote for me.
And the latest:
"For example, the beatitudes clearly tell us that we should have universal health care,"
I am voting for Jason Chaffetz. He is not trying to tell me what the Savior's political policy would be.
I wish Utah would stop just voting blindly, based on the old way things "USED TO BE", and really look at what is happening to us, by the politicians.
God Bless America!!
IF you truly believe Obama has terrorist ties, what are you doing here?
WHY haven't you turned Obama in to Homeland Security as being a potential terrorist? WHY? I dare you to explain why you have not. A good patriot who identifies a terrorist threat, certainly should do the right thing.
The stuff people believe.
Unfortunately, he will find himself quite powerless in Washington, not only on the wrong side of the aisle after this election, but the new guy. I have a pretty good feeling he will make lots of noise, but probably just be largely ignored.
Jason has identified four core conservative values which guide his policy positions. They are:
* Fiscal Discipline
* Limited Government
* Accountability
* Strong National Security
Jason has said every policy decision will be guided by those principles. He cannot support policy initiatives that violate those core principles.
Jason has also prioritized five key issues on which he plans to spend his political capital in Washington:
* Fiscal discipline
* Energy Policy
* Education
* Illegal Immigration
* National defense
Jason Chaffetz is more a voice of reason compared to:
There are people that want to round up all 12 million illegals, and are mad that Jason DOESN'T want to do that. Jason only wanted facilities where the government wouldn't have to catch and release felons. There are 600,000 they have let go. We wouldn't have to build facilities for that many, as we just need a temporary facility for convicted criminals, to be held prior to deportation.
There are people that don't want anyone new moving in, where Jason wants to fix LEGAL immigration so it doesn't take so long to legally come here.
There are people that think providing any temporary worker visa is wrong, where Jason agrees it is a great way to bring people out of the shadows, get rid of the fake IDs, but this in NO WAY provides a pathway to citizenship in front of those wanting to immigrate who have followed the rules.
democrat opponent:
Jason Chaffetz will do a fantastic job!!
Jason has said his plan includes:
Fix legal immigration
Reject amnesty
Lock down the border, enforce visas
Have the political will to enforce the current laws
Get rid of rewards & incentives to be here illegally
Give business the tools & align financial incentives
Insist on assimilation (English)

So, you are offended if someone is in this country and doesn't speak English. Deal with it. That's just a part of being an adult.
We need one common language.
English has not been the official language in the U.S. We have no official language.
People that have waited years to come here, should not have an advantage over those that came without permission.
One too many not's.
Hi neighbor!
We don't need more politics then we have in the AG's office.
The current AG has done a lot of good.
He has done nothing but take credit for others effort and suffering. He's a dip the whole office is worthless.
Before accusing a religious organization of misconduct, please get your facts straight and also consider the "misconduct" of those on the side you're supporting.
The LDS church and other churches will still be able to discriminate based on their policies - they will not be forced to marry "unworthy" people...I don't know what you all are fretting over.
But when there is a specific issue that an organization has consistently defended or opposed, they have just as much right as an individual to support or oppose that cause in any way they feel necessary (financially, volunteering, releasing statements, contacting members of the organization, etc).
clinton was short term prosperity at long term stability. i would take long term stability any day. face it, we have not had a decent pres, congress or senate for close to 50 years.
http://le.utah.gov/~code/TITLE20A/htm/20A13_030400.htm
You might think Obama is really smart, but does he have any common sense? NO!!! Anyone can look smart on paper can't they.
However, Bush's disgusting behavior as a president has been awfully good for the Democratic party.
But at such a cost...
MM
I wonder where Anerica would be today if Al Gore would have been Preident; what would he have done after 9-11, what would he have done after the worst storm in a 100 years hit New Orleans, what would he have done to secure our nation from people who want to cut your head off and stuff it down your throat, what would Al have done other than claim that America is melting the world?
:)
Watch what you say
Your just bent because the Republican's can't take the heat.
NO I AM NOT A DEMOCRAT BUT I FOR SURE NOT A REPUBLICAN NOT IN THIS ELECTION!!!
What is just wrong is Mr. Bush doing nothing about our Country be invaded by the Mexicans, Invading Iraq, and lying to the people about Weapons that did not and do not exsist.
I am sorry Al could not have done any worse then George
But seriously, Al Gore wouldn't have invaded Iraq, to go after a guy who nearly killed his dad...
Thousands of American lives saved, billions of dollars not spent.
(Not counting Lieberman. I was impressed with him when he was running for VP. Too bad he had a tweeb for a running mate).

Now, that is bad. For the sake of America, we really need change.
Will you be this disrespectful of him if he is elected the president by your fellow citizens?
Who will send these illegal invaders Home?
Then You Have My Vote
I called to have my carpet cleaned and when I told the company do not send people to my home who speak Spanish that I can't talk to. She said she was very sorry but she didn't have any English speaking staff members. SO I CALLED THE NEXT COMPANY, THEN THE NEXT AND THEY HAD AMERICANS they could sent to my home.
LETS FIGHT BACK LETS TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK
I have friends from all over the world.
I work in the construction field. Many people also speak Spanish. As long as they speak English as well, I get along fine.
No! They wouldn't do that -- not even to save their country -- because... because....
Well, they just couldn't.
Why do you think we have the weird laws around here?
Next thing you know the'll be telling us to go to bed at 10 a clock. and if are lights are not out we willl finded 25 dollars. and up to 10 days in jail.
Why are Americans so willing to be led carefully down to hell? Why won't they say no to BOTH major parties? It's not like they don't have a choice....
I wish Utah would stop just voting blindly, based on the old way things "USED TO BE", and really look at what is happening to us, by the politicians.
Utah Co. has a 3 party system, Dem's, Republicans and the Eagle Forum party.
i know what obama has "promised", but if you look at the records when ever a party owned (republican and democrat) congress and presidential seat take power, spending goes crazy and the u.s.a. public gets ignored.
Why dont you move to California or Mass. ?
When it comes to liberals like Obaaaama, I say, tell it to the hand.
"NOPE!"
"NOPE!"
Just this: over 95% of the money in the US is owned and/or controlled by less than %10 of the population -hmmmm? Just something to think about!
Frontline calls ignoring MOST of the candidates non-partisan choice...?
Bottom line: the fact that every incumbent is winning in a massive blowout is proof that utahns default to government employees in a very dangerous way. Horiuchi needs to be shown the door but he won't be. The bonds need to be defeated but they won't be. Government just wins and wins and wins in this mindless state of sheep.
if you think that obama and a democratic congress aren't going to take advantage of the situation to push taxes and bill you are up in the night.
Then again, McBain is also a stupid choice.
Why is it so difficult to get a couple of good choices for President of the United States? Why can't we get a desirable pick for President just once?
I'll be voting NONE OF THE ABOVE on election day.
I'm pretty sure that the majority are feeling the way I am too. The term socialism doesn't scare us. The American tax system is socialism by definition.
You like it with the Republican way
Big Business and Poor People
Republicans do not care about the People
GO BACK TO YOUR CAVE IN CALIFORNIA
and we should all have the same things no matter how hard we work.
Good luck.
Now that the Socialism of Obama is out of the bag, dissenters can only be called names as an "intelligent" defense.
As long as we're on YOUR subject:
Obama did Coke. Rush did re-hab.
Rush is an idiot? But Biden is a genius?
When will Barack visit the rest of the 57 states?
Breathe deeply, your mom will have your mac and cheese ready in a few minutes. Go back to your SuperMario.
Even if Obama were somehow able to achieve everything he promises many Utahn's would still hate him and would vote for for someone else in the next election.
They like cutting off their noses just to spite their faces...
It comes down to one fundamental question..who do you want to be responsible for you and your family's future..YOU or Washington, D.C.? I have little faith in Washington's ability to handle the taxpayer's dollars. Example: Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac!
BS
Unbelievable.
Use your brain vote McCain.
No one cares and that is what is so sad and disturbing about Obama.

Debunking Say wut's fallacies one post at a time.
Otherwise you just seem like a biased, partisan mouthpiece, willing to criticize everything from one side while gleefully swallowing everything the other side spoon feeds you.
stay our of debt,
dont go into debt,
for anything.

TURN OFF THE TV AND READ.
McCain is Pro life. And always has been.
For me this is a Moral vote. When I don't like either candidate my vote will always go to my core values.
I WILL VOTE MCCAIN FOR THIS REASON ALONE.
You may be Christian but you also have a very narrow view of morality.
Go Obama!!
keep drinking that starbucks it must contain the secret nobama ingredient to make you all hallucinate.......hummm maybe I will get me some~ lol
sheep herding at its best.
Hypocrites.
Heads: Bob Barr
Tails: Chuck Baldwin
The truth is that Democrats and Republicans have the SAME foreign policy. Obama will NOT be bringing anyone home from Iraq. I fully anticipate that you will disagree with me on that point, but remember this prediction. You'll see....
McCain and Obama voted the same on the bailout. If you look at the roots of that philosophy, you'll see that their economic ideas are fundamentally the same.
Muslims!
Scientologists!
Its called scream a religion everybody join in!!!
There are definitely both advantages and disadvantages to the electoral college system and to the winner-take-all process of choosing electoral votes. This can be a great discussion, but if we want something changed, that's what voting is for. Hope to see you at the polls!
And I just want SuperDell for Governor. So shoot me.
They somehow think the way to overcome this economic disaster is for each of to incur more debt -- as if more debt is the way to become financially solvent. The government is thrashing around blindly. We need to do the opposite.
Get out of debt.
Live well within your means.
Save for a rainy day.
The fiat monetary system is coming to an end.
Be very careful. Remember what happened to Russia when they murdered the Czar?
True Americans understand what I'm talking about.
The rest of you are clueless SHEEP!
Of course, if both major parties operated within the bounds of the constitution there would be no such fear, since the constitution does not allow the government to harm ANYONE.
