Is the bus not big enough for you to see? Did you need it to be bigger, or have a siren or covered with lights? That still probably wouldn't have helped.
naa..... @Pudgy - The woman driver was probably doing her make-up or texting. It's chicks like her that give women drivers like myself a bad reputation.
Chilli @Chillipepper - I have a friend who thinks she can yak on the phone, smoke and drive all at once. (She thinks nothing of this while driving her children around) And she wonders why she's been in 7 wrecks and totalled 2 cars. This on top of her numerous speeding tickets due to doing all of the above and just not paying any attention. It was almost funny when she ran off the road while talking to her boyfriend after dropping the cherry from her cigarette in her lap. Good thing she lives in a very rural area.
let me guess... @Pudgy - she was on the cell phone, applying eye make up, smoking a cigerette, while reading the morning paper. She just didn't see the BRIGHT YELLOW SCHOOL BUS passing by and pulled out in front of the bus. Nice job lady.
Unbelievable. I wonder if she was on her cell phone.
All she had to do was look both ways. A bicycle I could understand because it is dark at 7 in the morning (though I wouldn't wish it)...but a SCHOOL BUS? They're pretty hard to miss under any circumstances.
The way it's written it sounds like the bus driver was just sitting there waiting for someone to come out of the bank driveway so (s)he could crash into them.
Awww, here we go: The stereotypical comments about women drivers. Guess what? Men suck at driving just as much as women. Some loser on his cell phone rear ended me at a stoplight the other day. He was too busy texting to realize that the light hadn't turned green yet and plowed into the back of us. After exchanging insurance information and waiting for the stoplight, I looked in my rear view mirror and the guy got right back on his phone!
Interesting how the comments are always bashing on women drivers, but with all of the airplane crashes lately, how many of those pilots were MALES?! It goes both ways, folks.
How..... @NATTIE - can you compare a plane crash to a car accident. There are many more things that can go wrong with a plane. All the variables with weather, equipment, etc. A car is much easier to control as you are always on the ground and not succeptable to wind gusts.
It can't go both ways, any idiot, case in point, can get a license, but you must spend a lot of time and money to get a pilots license. That tends to weed out the carless people.
To be fair... @NATTIE - You're right. I couldn't resist the woman crack. It's true, both genders are terrible drivers.
This morning some doofus was merging and decided he just couldn't merge behind me, where it would have been just too boring I guess, as there was plenty of room for him and speeds were just right for it, no way-- he had to accelerate and merge in front of me, where there was room, sure, but now he was going 20 MPH faster than the truck in front of me, which I guess took him by surprise, because he had to swerve wildly into the left lane, missing the back left corner of that truck by mere inches. The fun didn't end there, because as soon as he was in the left lane he found himself still going 20 MPH faster than everyone else so he then had to brake hard to keep from slamming into the back of the car in that lane.
Five miles down the road there he was sitting at a red light as I passed him turning right... couldn't resist tossing a bone to him... hope he caught it. What a Californian.
What a californian??? @Pudgy - Sorry, but have you every actually been on the west coast... that means past Tooele, ever??? CA drivers are MUCH better than those here. People here are bigger risk takers, angrier, and much more distracted. And genetically prone to suck at driving. I would happily drive in San Fran than drive downtown SLC anyday.
@Ryan M. - Har, har... that's a good one. The bad drivers here are all the California transplants. Maybe I should clarify Southern Cali transplants? Would that give you a more objective perspective? Because you know it's true.
Ryan is right @Ryan M. - With family in CA I am there often, CA definitely without a doubt has better drivers then Utah.
I think its cause they have had to deal with tons of people on the road a lot longer and with more frequency then we have. They cant afford to have people drive like Utahns there cause it would cause chaos on the roads.
You're on a freeway in CA and you signal to come over and the person moves out of the way or slows down. In Utah they speed up and fill the hole you were trying to get into, then they sit there like they beat you at some game. Utah drivers are horrble.
And what is with the buses here? They pull out into oncoming traffic all the time. Crazy.
Utah needs to think seriously about redlight cameras.
It seems to be @Pudgy - the guys who are going several miles above the speed limit, and the girls who are "multi-tasking" as they drive. Neither one is at all safe.
I was nearly rear-ended by a moron going at LEAST 85 up the 201 (where, FYI, it's only 60 MPH). I was in the fast lane (probably goig 70, with the rest of the travelers) and saw him coming up behind me rather quickly, I signalled to move out if his way, HE swerved into the slower lane, nearly back-ending me as I attempted to give him the faster lane, then he proceeded to stick his hand out his window and wave to me with his finger. (So kind of him to wave as he passed.) I then watched him swerve around vehicle after vehicle until I couldn't even see him anymore.
I really expected to see a horrible crash further up the road. This guy was a fatal accident looking for a place to happen.
The Sun That is it, the sun was in her eyes. OOPS just checked, the sun did not come up until almost 8 am. Well I think then maybe the bus was not fluorescent enough for her to see. Maybe the school districts need to paint all of their buses bright fluorescent and put flashing lights on them so they look like Christmas trees while driving down the street.
Driving So boys and girls I've been reading a lot of the blogging on this. Yes women do get distracted, but considering I have three brothers two of which have been in lots of accidents.. Brother #1 Tends to fall asleep and hit mailbox's and if he's not falling asleep he's running into the back of car's because he's fiddling with his hair.
Brother#2 is the youngest 20.. He Likes hitting deer when he is trying to change radio stations, or backing into cars that aren't moving. Amazing how that works...
Not saying I'm the best driver considering I ran into a curb after pulling a triple shift and having to drive an hour home... amazing how main cause of accidents are due to lack of sleep.
Give the poor lady a break maybe she hadn't had her caffine yet. At least no one was hurt.
No caffeine! NOOOOOO!!!!!!!! @Joy_of_the_Irish - Joy- read the article about energy drinks. Fast! Before you become addicted or overdose. Your life is in danger!!
Something happened A normal driver with 2 hands on the wheel doesnt just hit a large yellow bus. Something was going on. Maybe a phone call, maybe breakfast, maybe a hot coffee got spilled, .... something. I dont think it happened just cause she has ovaries.
Perhaps..... She just did like "MOST" other drivers in Utah and pulled clear out into the road BEFORE looking to see if there was any traffic. Drivers do NOT stop at stop signs and then move forward..... they shoot clear past the sign, almost into the road and then decide to look for oncomming traffic. Yes I know that banks don't have stop signs, just a pet peeve I have.
First of all What was the lady doing at the bank so early in the morning? Did she want to be the first in line for the opening of the business day? How can you miss a very big yellow school bus is what I would also like to know. That is why I think that it should be against the law to be doing anything else while behind the wheel of a car but driving. But just after saying that I just got thinking, that still would not pervent accidents, because I believe that they will give a drivers license to just about any idiot living in the state. I have been other places and other states and I Swear to the Man up stairs that Utah has to have some of the dumbest, rudest drivers of any where. Please just try to use a little common sense and try a little bit of kindness while driving and then maybe we can cut down on some of these stupid accidents. And just one other thing being female really does not have anything to do with the accident I have seen some really really studid male drivers also.
The shorter the bus Getting hit by a bus is one thing.......getting hit by the short bus is completely another thing. Sound like this lady should be riding the short bus. "FRANKS AND BEANS....FRANKS AND BEANS!!!!!
the whole story @Chris M. - The SL Trib online has the whole story, and it WAS a short bus. Troll me and mark me huh? if you must, but I checked my facts before I posted. And the frank and beans is in reference to one of my favorite movies. 5 points to whoever can figure it out.
@Chris M. - Making fun of disabled people makes you a moron. And now I make fun of you, moron. But I guess that makes me a moron, based on my first statement.
Let's see if I got it... @Chris M. - In the 1976 movie, 'Murder by Death', Milo says 'Be quiet everyone! I smell something! It's - Good God! - FRANKS AND BEANS!'
Nah, that's too old... @Emoemoemo - Let's see. In the 1991 movie 'City Slickers', they are sitting around, discussing which ice cream goes best with a given food, one of the foods they discuss was 'Franks and beans'.
Probably still too old a movie... @Emoemoemo - Okay, in the 2003 TV movie, 'Return to the Batcave: The Misadventures of Adam and Burt', they are at a food stand, when Burt notices that the names of the items are oddly reminiscent. One of the items was 'Gorshin Franks and Beans'.
And the winner is...... @Emoemoemo - Emoemoemo.......but you only get 2.5 points, i totally forgot about the Murder By Death reference (great movie)
The one I was looking for was "There's Something About Mary." But it just dawned on me that many KSL.com followers did not see it. They hold it in the same regard that Larry H Miller holds to "Zack and Miri Make A Porno." Oh well, his and their loss.
I wonder, how many phones she was talking into or texting from and how much makeup the nimwhit was putting on when she "neglected" to look for oncoming traffic. Bet ya all she learned her lesson that the bus is bigger and badder so the bus will always win. M
The story says.... that the bus hit the front of her car, she didn't hit the bus. Granted I think she pulled out when the bus hit her...so i guess you guys are correct. I drive a school bus and have had to move over into the other lane when a person pulls out of a driveway and their front ends are sticking out to far and I don't want to hit them..so I could see it happening.
Good point Morrowe just one problem, @Morrow - I know of at least four banks off the top off my head right now in the area of 7200 south and highland drive. That is a bumper to bumper intersection at 7 AM so i am positive the driver did not have the luxury of changing lanes there for the lady should have been watching for oncoming traffic. As a driver it is her duty to look for cars or in this case buses which i am sure are pretty hard to miss unless you are out right neglectful and do not look. So it was her fault all her fault she let it all happen. It is drivers like her i wish DMV would yank their drivers license from the roads will be safer without people like her. Dude i go jamming up both canyons in my truck but i also know what is in front of me and behind me.
Sorry, we are not accepting new comments on this story.
KSL's public inspection files, including the Children's Television Programming Reports and the DTV Quarterly Activity Station Report, are available for viewing during regular office hours at the KSL Broadcast House.

Again, vast country to see, just go past Tooele.

Anyways you ARE a moron.
I knew I could get it.
I suppose that one is the one.
Ah, that must be the reference.

Congrats Emoemoemo!!!!
