Two people died in a plane crash in western Utah County today. The plane went down around 11:00 this morning about a mile and a half south of Cedar Fort.
Several members of a hunting club were in the area at the time. They say the plane had been doing aerobatic maneuvers and went into a nosedive.
"I found myself, as he was coming out of the sky, almost hollering, ‘Pull it out buddy! Pull it up!'" said Allen Dustin.
Rick Hawkins, who also witnessed the accident, said, "I couldn't see the maneuvers. [I could] hear the engine fine, then all of a sudden got quiet and quit. And [I] looked at the mountainside, [saw] a huge cloud of black smoke; couldn't see any flame, but the airplane was obviously on fire."
Sgt. Tom Hodgson, with the Utah County Sheriff's Office, says the plane took off from Airport No. 2 in Salt Lake County. But his office didn't receive any reports that a distress call was put out before the plane went down.
Investigators know the identities of the victims, but won't release them until they can notify family members.
