A Utah County man charged with beating his newborn son could soon face murder charges because the child has now died.

Cameron Nielsen wanted to be released this week from jail so he could attend his infant son's funeral. His request was denied.

Now Utah County Deputy Prosecutor Donna Kelly says Nielson could soon be facing even stronger charges. "We may be filing murder or child abuse homicide," she said.

Kelly says they're waiting for final autopsy results to come in before making any decision.

"Early results from the autopsy are that the child died from seizures related to head injuries," she explained.

Kelly says the baby had rib and skull fractures, a lacerated liver and a list of other problems from being thrown and abused. Prosecutors believe Nielsen is responsible for the injuries.

The baby was in state custody and being cared for in a foster home where a nurse lived when he died.
