A Draper man who makes motocross movies in his backyard has been shut down by Draper City Council.
According to the Draper City Police Chief, the council decided to revoke Gregg Godfrey's permit to shoot the films.
They cited a Salt Lake Valley Health Department regulation that states that no off-road vehicles can operate within 800 feet of a dwelling.
Apparently, Draper City did not know about the new noise ordinance when they approved Godfrey's permit. Godfrey obtained a film permit from the city to tape the motocross movies in his backyard. But neighbors complained to city council about loud noise and dust.
Meanwhile, the Salt Lake Valley Health Department has temporarily reversed the ban on skateboard ramps in backyards.
The department decided today to implement a moratorium on the skateboard portion of the health department noise ordinance.
Officials say skateboard ramps within 800 feet of a dwelling can be used during certain hours of the day as long as it's under a particular noise decibel level. The department says that it will do more research and come to a conclusion in April of next year.
