(KSL News) Utah's commuter rail officially begins extended service north of Ogden today.

Utah Transit Authority opened the new FrontRunner station in Pleasant View on Saturday for its inaugural run. This morning passengers can hop on board for its first day of commuting.

A train was set to leave from Pleasant View at 6:33 a.m. and return from Salt Lake City at 5:10 p.m.

The Pleasant View station is FrontRunner's first leg north of Ogden. Additional stops to the north are planned in the future. A southbound line to Provo is expected to be finished by 2015.

The train is expected to reduce pollution in northern Utah and congestion on Interstate 15.
