SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City police arrested one person and are still searching for another after finding an adult male shot to death in a parked car Tuesday morning.
The SLCPD confirmed the shooting at 300 E. Browning Ave at 11:23 a.m. after receiving calls of fired shots, Salt Lake police detective Greg Wilking said. The victim of the shooting has been identified by police as 19-year-old Sebastian Salgado.
The person arrested was identified as Romeo Alyss Alvarez, 18. Police are still looking for a second person who may have been involved in the shooting. Police describe the second person as a 19- or 20- year-old African American man in a red jacket.
Medical personnel pulled the victim from the vehicle and attempted to render aid, but the man died at the scene, Wilking said.
The three men are believed to have arrived in the car together, but two later fled after the shooting, leaving the victim behind. Both were last seen in the neighborhood east and south of the shooting, Wilking said. The area is a residential neighborhood near Liberty Park.
Police believe it may have been a "robbery gone bad."
The man still at large is considered armed and dangerous and police have K-9 units searching the area. Police have urged the public to say something if they see something.
Wilking said residents in the area should "keep their doors locked, keep an eye out for anybody suspicious in the neighborhood that's in backyards, garages, anything like that. Be aware of your surroundings and call in to police if anything seems suspicious."
The shooting is not believed to be connected with any of the homes in the area.
Police are still seeking to determine how the men were connected and why they were in the area at the time of the shooting.
A search of Utah state court records shows only two cases against Salgado, both filed earlier this year, involving misdemeanor drug, alcohol and traffic charges.
