PETERSBORO, Cache County — Police are investigating the discovery of a body inside a burned vehicle, officials said Sunday night.
At about 4:15 p.m., deputies from the Cache County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on rural private property on the west side of Cache County near Petersboro.
Deputies located the vehicle and confirmed that a badly burned body was inside. Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Peterson said the vehicle appeared to be destroyed by fire. Peterson said the fire was not actively burning at the time of their arrival and the car appeared to have been burned within the last day or so.
Officials said there are no further details at this time and “many questions are yet to be answered.”
Detectives from the Cache County Sheriff's Office, the State Medical Examiner's Office along with resources from the State Fire Marshall's Office were dispatched to the scene. Peterson said detectives would be working throughout the night in efforts to identify the person inside the vehicle and determine the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the case.
