Hooper, Utah -- A man in Hooper had a bit of a dispute with a neighbor, and instead of mending fences, he built one. His fence, however, is made out of cars, and he says it's all in a spirit of fun.
Creator Rhett Davis calls it his "Redneck Stonehenge." It's not that he doesn't like his neighbors, he's just not sure they understand him and his kind.
What used to be farmland is now filling up with subdivisions. "The unique community coming in, I don't think they're used to the farm life," Davis said. "I think the residential is starting to overpower the farmer."
A neighbor in one house complained about flies and smells and dust. The neighbor wouldn't pay half the cost of a fence, Davis says, so he built one himself with a Ford and two Toyotas stuck grill-first into the dirt.
"I put the tractor out there also to kind of say 'Hey, I'm still farming!'" Davis said.
For a self-confessed "Dukes of Hazard" fan, it's one way of saying "Howdy, neighbor!"
"I kinda like them. I thought about putting Christmas lights on them," he said.
Davis insists it's all in the spirit of fun, and he'll take it down if anyone asks. "Also, at the same time, to voice my point about the fence issue that I have had, and also to stand and represent the farmer," he explained. "But it is kind of an in-your-face. I made my point. I'm an easygoing guy. I'll take them down."
So far, the neighbors haven't spoken up. "I haven't got any comment on them, other than dumbfounded looks and, 'What kind of sick guy would do that?'" Davis said.
Davis owns the vehicles. One was heavily damaged in a demolition derby. The others were headed in that direction.
"But I decided, ‘Well, it would look a lot better with the taillights facing the heavens.' And so I decided that's what I'm going to do," Davis said.
Neighbors seem reluctant to speak, except for one neighbor boy who told us his dad thinks it looks pretty trashy. But you know, the regular Stonehenge in England is a little run down too, and people come from all over the world to see that!
