ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) -- A man accused of fatally shaking his fiance's 4-month-old son made his initial court appearance on a charge of child abuse homicide.

Gregory Todd Fullerton, 30, was arrested July 23 after the baby was flown from St. George to Salt Lake City with injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome.

According to court documents, Fullerton told detectives that he shook the baby and heard the child's neck snap. The affidavit says Fullerton told investigators that the baby stopped crying and also stopped breathing.

Prosecutors said in court Monday that Fullerton has been appointed a defense attorney.
