A routine check of license plates at a local motel netted two people being sought in connection with a disappearance and a murder in California. Agents from the Utah Division of Motor Vehicle Enforcement were running license plates at the Motel 6 at 1900 West and North Temple when police say they got a return on a 2003 Hyundai.
Salt Lake City police officers were called to assist, and the officers from the DMV arrested a woman as she came out of her motel room and into the car. The man was arrested in his room shortly after without incident.
They were both taken to the hospital. According to Salt Lake City police Lt. Scott White, the man was taken to the hospital with what appeared to be three gunshot wounds. The woman had a stab wound on her arm. Investigators don't know if they had just happened, or if they were older wounds.
According to the Sacramento Bee, the car belongs to 47-year old Patricia Ann Presba, who disappeared from her home on Thursday. Police found blood on the front door of the home, but little additional evidence. Detectives were also looking for a man named Jaime Ramos, an associate of Presba.
Last month, Presba's husband, Ronald, disappeared. His burned-out SUV was later found with human remains inside. Detectives have yet to officially identify the remains.
Salt Lake Police detectives are deferring to authorities in El Dorado County for further information. So far, calls to the El Dorado County Sheriff's office have not been returned.
