(KSL News) A Clearfield mother charged with negligent homicide after leaving her 5-month-old son in a hot car for two hours did not call 911. According to a police report, neither did the woman she was visiting with.
Thirty-one-year-old Kamilyn Hadley was doing computer work at a friend's home. She says she forgot baby Daniel was in the car. When she found the baby, she rushed back inside with him and tried to cool him off. His temperature was over 107 degrees.
She then rushed the baby to Davis Hospital herself. He died at Primary Children's Medical Center three days later.
Daniel Hadley's death comes about two months after the death of Myles Gailey, an 18-month-old Kearns boy. His mother returned from the grocery store and forgot her son was in the back of the car. The child died, but charges were not filed against the mother, Jana Gailey.
Alicia Cook, with the Salt Lake County Attorney's office told KSL, "We didn't feel it rose to criminal negligence and we also didn't feel there would any service to the community in charging the mother with a crime."
Hadley could face a year in prison, but the Davis County Attorney says if she pleads guilty, they will ask for probation and no jail time.
