In 2006, Ryan Stevenson's life changed forever. A snowboarding accident severed his spinal cord, causing him to lose use of his legs. But Ryan is now using his experience to help others, and his efforts are catching the attention of many, including his sister Kristen.
She wrote to our Brooke Walker, nominating Ryan for a KSL High 5. She said, "I have been so impressed with Ryan's determination and perseverance. I'm so proud of all he has accomplished and done. He has taught me a lot about not giving up on dreams, the importance of family, as well as not letting the little things that stand in your way. I have been very impressed with his drive and his desire and not let anyone tell him no. He has put together this big car show, he has these big dreams and he just won't let anyone tell him no."
Stevenson told us, "It's hard to have a good attitude, but it's better to have a good attitude. And having an amazing wife and amazing family is how it gets done," he said.
In addition to his family, Ryan's '65 Chevy Impala also helped him move forward. "It's my favorite thing in the world. It's one of the things that kept me going after my accident," he said.
Later this month, Ryan will combine his love for cars with his desire to help others. The result is a charity car show set to benefit the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. "I want to help out any way I can, I want to benefit that foundation and help as many people I can," he said.
The car show is on July 26 at Brighton Ski Resort.
