OGDEN — A new little boy just couldn't wait to come into the world.

Mary Burrell and her husband, Brady, were on their way to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden Thursday morning to deliver their fourth baby, but before they could make it to the hospital, Mary gave birth to a baby boy inside their speeding Honda Civic.

"We were on the back road coming toward the ER door, and that's when Mary's like, ‘The baby's here. The baby's here,' Brady Burrell said. "And I'm just like, ‘We are close. I'm not stopping right here.'"

Through the ordeal, Brady said he just drove as fast as he safely could.

"Usually it's a 20-minute drive (to the hospital)," he said. "I got here in 15."

Not fast enough for baby. By the time his parents pulled up to the front of the ER and a doctor ran out to help, there wasn't much more to be done.

"When (Brady) pulled in, the doctor pulled (the baby's) foot out or something. He was pretty much all the way out when we pulled in," Mary Burrell said.

The entire labor lasted about 45 minutes. Mary said her water broke at about 6:15 a.m., the contractions started at about 6:30 a.m., and her yet-unnamed bundle of joy arrived just before 7 a.m.

After the baby was delivered, Brady helped a doctor cut the umbilical cord in the car. Then mom and baby were whisked away into the hospital. Both were determined to be in good health and were expected to be discharged from the hospital Saturday.

As for the car, it got a very thorough cleaning, Brady said, and the 2002 Civic is up for sale. The Burrells' family of six has now officially outgrown it.
