Craig Mikesell, Samantha's Father: "He wouldn't even look at me."
The father of a teen who was with a convicted sex offender when she died, makes an emotional outburst in court. Walter White made his first court appearance this afternoon. Prosecutors have charged him with five felonies in the case of Samantha Mikesell.
Walter White was in a red jumpsuit and shackles. He didn't say much, only responded 'yes', when asked to confirm his name and address. But as he left the courtroom, emotions got the best of the Mikesell's father.
Craig Mikesell: "He didn't even have the guts to look me in the eye."
As Walter White left the courtroom, Samantha Mikesell's father, yelled out to him and accused him of murder.
Craig Mikesell: "Of course he killed her. Take her up there, feed her some pills, give her booze, then have his way with her."
Today, prosecutors charged White with five felonies, including child abuse. They confirmed reports of a suicide-pact.
Bill McGuire, Davis County Deputy Attorney: "He in essence created a harmful situation to her that is emotionally harmful situation to her, by going up there to commit suicide."
Court documents say White and Mikesell had a sexual relationship since October of last year, when Mikesell was 15.
In June and July, he made plans with the teen to commit suicide in her presence. On July 5th, they went to the mountains and ingested several pills in a suicide attempt. Court documents say Mikesell died on the mountain and White dragged her body into a more secluded area and hid some of the pill bottles.
White's niece says he's tried to commit suicide before.
Candice Walters, White's Niece: "It's hard for us, but we want him to get help, and it's unfortunate this is what it took."
Walters says her uncle's relationship with Mikesell broke up his marriage, but he insisted the two were just friends. She says White had strong feelings for Mikesell, and is in a tough situation.
Candice Walters: "It's almost like you don't know what to think. Like, if you were to put yourself in his shoes, he was expecting to die. He wasn't planning on being here to deal with all this."
Police are still awaiting toxicology results. Prosecutors may file additional charges, including possible homicide-related charges, once they know how Mikesell died. White will be back in court later this month.
