SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- It will be months before an important court hearing is held in the death of a 7-year-old Asian immigrant.

Esar Met's preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 9. A judge in Salt Lake County will determine if there's probable cause to put the 21-year-old on trial for murder and kidnapping.

Met is accused of killing Hser Nay Moo in the basement of a South Salt Lake apartment.

He is a native of Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, which also is the home country of the victim's family.

Salt Lake County prosecutors haven't disclosed whether they will pursue the death penalty if Met is convicted.
