VERNAL — Police on Monday released the name of the woman who was found dead in the Green River Sunday.
Leona Jean Rowley, 37, of Vernal, was discovered by search and rescue crews around 4 p.m. near the Horseshoe Bend area of the Green River. She had been missing since Saturday night.
"She went fishing with her husband (Saturday). He went downstream 50 to 100 yards, and when he came back he was unable to locate her," Uintah County Undersheriff John Laursen said Sunday.
Rowley was found about 1/3 mile away from where police believe she fell into the river. Search and rescue crews found a place where the bank of the river had caved in, which led them to believe she fell into the river.
