SPRINGDALE — A Southern Utah woman is offering a reward for information about the mutilation and death of her cat.

Sherry Teresa was reading until midnight with her cat Khepri nearby on Aug. 10. She claims she went to bed and the next morning, found his body about 125 feet from her home, drained of blood, cut in half and emptied of its lungs and heart.

Teresa, a wildlife biologist, said the incision appeared surgical. A vet told her the wounds were not from a wild animal, she said.

"It was a very gruesome act, and this person needs to be brought to justice," Teresa said. "I have no idea who is capable of doing something like this, and that's what's frightening to me.

Springdale Police Department Sgt. Sgt. Garen Brecke said she believes she was targeted, and no other incidents of the nature have been reported in the area.

Teresa is offering a $2,500 reward for information.

"I've been kind of fearful. My neighbors are fearful. I hate to cause panic in the neighborhood and community, but this is just such a gruesome act," she said.

Anyone with information should call the Springdale Police Department at 435-772-3434.
