The larger the family, the larger the vehicle you need to haul it around, right? That may be the case for some families, but luckily there is another option, the Midsize SUV with third-row seating. These vehicles allow you to load up to seven or eight passengers comfortably and still have available space for other tidbits that may be needed on a trip—say, from the grocery store to your home.

Not sure where to go to find what is right for your family? Here are six high-quality midsize SUVs with third-rows as discussed on consumerreports.org.

Honda Pilot

A member of the boxed vehicle club, the Honda Pilot's third-row seating folds down for extra cargo room when needed. This extra space disappears when the seats fold back up, though; and this may not be the luxury vehicle for those seeking a more refined interior. The drive, however, is said to be controlled and smooth; plus, a rear-view camera is standard in their models. City driving on average gives 18 mpg and you can purchase this vehicle for $29,000-$41,000. Check out the Pilot.

Hyundai Santa Fe

Known for a 20-mpg, city-driving tank, the Hyundai Santa Fe is given top reviews for its room, style and good responsiveness during test drives. There are all kinds of features that are offered with this vehicle including: a navigation system, six-speaker stereo and backup camera. Other features like climate control, and rear-parking sensors can be added at an extra cost. You can purchase this vehicle for anywhere between $29,000 and just under $36,000. Check out the Santa Fe.

Ford Flex

Maybe a bit boxy-looking for some, the Ford Flex V6 engine does give quick acceleration times, but lacks in maneuverability, according to the consumer report. The larger windows offer those little ones wiggling in the back some scenery to look at, and there is ample cargo room for any of life's necessities. It averages 18 mpg in the city, and can be found anywhere from $29,000 to $42,000. Check out the Flex.

Chevrolet Traverse

With a V6 engine and smooth maneuverability, this Midsize SUV makes the list. The interior is said to be the most spacious and quiet of the SUVs according to Consumer Reports. It comfortably fits adults in the third-row seating with all their needed gear. It receives approximately 17 mpg in the city, and you can expect to pay between $30,000 and $44,000 for this vehicle. Check out the Traverse.

Dodge Durango

Powered by either a V6 or V8 engine, with consumers preferring the extra power, the Dodge Durango is noted to have a friendlier passenger experience because of its roomie cabin. The Consumer report says that visibility is limited; however, there is a rear-view camera to make up for this deficiency. You can expect to receive 18 mpg with city driving, and pay approximately $30,000 to $44,000 for this vehicle. Check out the Durango.

Toyota Highlander

This V6, six-speed automatic vehicle is ideal for those who want good handling and good gas mileage. You can expect 20 mpg on city roads, or with a Hybrid version an average of 25 mpg. Consumers enjoy the many storage spaces that are spread throughout the vehicle, and a spacious cabin allows for the whole family to delight in their ride. This vehicle can be purchased for approximately $29,000 to a higher-end price of almost $50,000. Check out the Highlander.

Always remember that shopping for a car requires a lot of research. To ensure your family's safety, always check out crash ratings and safety features on a car before you buy it. If the price range doesn't match your budget, consider older and used models.
