RIVERSIDE, Box Elder — A woman died in a single-car accident after one of the rear tires on her vehicle failed Wednesday, police said.

Maria Morfin Arreola, 58, was traveling north on I-15 near Riverside exit 385 when the rear passenger side tire failed on the 1999 green Ford Explorer she was driving, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. The accident occurred at about 8:24 a.m.

“The vehicle swerved left and went into the median, at which point the vehicle rolled three times, coming to rest on its wheels facing south in the median,” a statement from UHP reads. “The roof of the vehicle was crushed during the rollover.”

Arreola, an Ogden resident, was wearing a seatbelt, but suffered severe head trauma, according to investigators. They said she was transported to Bear River Valley Hospital, but later died from her injuries.
