PLEASANT GROVE, Utah (AP) — Owners of two Pleasant Grove businesses that repair rock-chip damage to vehicle windshields have been charged with felony fraud.

Tyson Brown of Quick Fix Auto Glass was charged with racketeering and insurance and identity fraud, while Tyson Weber of T&R Auto Service has pleaded guilty to insurance and identity fraud.

Utah Insurance Department officials say the two and their sales employees solicited rock-chip repair jobs by going door to door and advising vehicle owners that they would take care of claims with their auto insurance company without cost to owners.

After obtaining owners' personal information, they're accused of contacting the insurance companies and impersonating policy holders to obtain payment for repairs.

In cases where multiple rock chips were repaired, they allegedly filed follow-up claims without owners' knowledge days, weeks or months later.

Insurance companies typically pay the same amount as a single rock-chip repair when multiple rock chips are repaired at the same time.

Department officials say the two filed 1,674 claims with insurance companies, who paid them $102,000.

Four of Brown's sales employees also were charged.
