SALT LAKE CITY — A would-be robber who threatened to shoot a man if he didn't give him his cash backed off — and apologized — after the man showed the suspect he only had credit cards.

The attempted robbery occurred about 1:20 a.m. Friday in the 300 block of Pierpont Avenue, according to the Salt Lake City Police Department.

No gun was seen, police said.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 50s, with blond hair, wearing a black mechanic's type button-up shirt with a white sewn-on name tag with red lettering.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact Salt Lake police at 801-799-3000.
