WHITEROCKS, Uintah County — One person is dead after a car slammed into a tree and caught fire early Thursday morning.

The crash was reported about 12:10 a.m. after driver Lori Antonio Taveapont, 24, of Uintah County slid sideways through an intersection near 11500 North and Whiterocks Highway (3750 East) and crashed into a tree in front of a house, investigators said.

The car caught fire after the crash, authorities said. The Lapoint-Tridell Fire Department was called in to extinguish the fire and help extricate Taveapont's body.

No one inside the house was injured.

FBI agents, Bureau of Indian Affairs police and Uintah County sheriff's deputies are conducting a joint investigation into the crash.

Taveapont was transported to the Utah State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
