SALT LAKE CITY — Police are asking for help to identify a woman who they say stole a car from a man who was giving her a ride.

The woman drove off with the vehicle while the man who gave her a ride was inside a 7-Eleven, located at 1285 N. Redwood Road, on Sunday at about 5:30 a.m., according to the Salt Lake City Police Department. The man had stopped to use the restroom, police said.

Surveillance images of the woman were released by police Tuesday. Police did not specify how the man and woman knew each other.

The car was a black Nissan Xterra and has the Utah license plate D236KD, police said. Investigators described the woman as being a white female of a “heavy build” who is between 30 and 40 years old.

Anyone with information about the woman or the incident can contact the Salt Lake City Police Department by calling 801-799-3000 or texting 274637 with the keyword TIPSLCPD and relevant information. The case number is 14- 120987.
