VERNAL — Crews are responding to the Taylor Mountain Road Fire near Vernal on Saturday.

Residents in north Vernal and Maeser were told they no longer needed to prepare for evacuation late Saturday evening.

Birchell said one structure was lost, though it was unclear at the time what the structure was.

The fire is approximately 10 miles north of Vernal. Taylor Mountain Road is closed while crews respond. Steinaker State Park will remain closed until the fire is under control, Utah State Parks said.

Birchell reported approximately 20 engines, three heavy air tankers, two Single Engine Air Tankers, and a type-1 helicopter are responding to the fire.

The wildfire is headed northeast, and officials said high winds in the area were pushing the fire. The fire is burning in grass, brush and pinion juniper trees.

Birchell said the fire affected 200+ acres.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
