ST. GEORGE — A hiker was rescued on the Rim Trail near Red Cliffs in Washington County after he was injured in a fall.
Rescuers receive a call around 4 p.m. Monday that two hikers in their 40s were on the Rim Trail when one fell rolled 60 feet down the side of the trail. He sustained serious injuries and could not walk out on his own, said Washington County Deputy Darrell Cashin.
Rescuers thought they would have to pull the man off the mountain with a rope and pulley system, but the search team cut down trees to clear a landing zone for a helicopter to land, Cashin said.
When they reached the injured hiker he was conscious, but he had chest pain and difficulty breathing. He was flown to a hospital with severe injuries.
The identity of the injured hiker has not been released.
