CENTERVILLE — Centerville police are searching for the owner of a vehicle that rolled off a trailer and was abandoned in a Centerville neighborhood.

Police received reports around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday of an abandoned vehicle on the edge of 382 N. Frontage Road, according to Centerville Assistant Police Chief Paul Child. Witnesses told police that a Chevy pickup truck was pulling a U-Haul trailer with a Ford Explorer on the trailer. The Explorer wasn't secured properly and it rolled off the trailer while it was moving.

Child said it appeared the driver of the pickup truck didn't realize that the vehicle had rolled off the trailer, and continued driving. The Explorer rolled into a curb and came to a stop. The vehicle was inspected by Centerville police and then impounded.

"It was just in the road sideways and no one was around," Child said.

The Explorer was registered to an Idaho resident, but limited information was available. The vehicle was described as a 1997 green Ford Explorer with different sized tires and damage to the front rims.

Anyone with information of the vehicle or the owner can contact the Centerville Police Department at 801-292-8441.
