PLEASANT GROVE — A couple was arrested after allegedly using heroin in front of their children Sunday, police said.

Destiny Adams and Ryan Colucci, both 28, were arrested on suspicion of possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia, plus child endangerment, after their 8-year-old daughter described to police how her parents had been using drugs, according to Sgt. John Clayton of the Pleasant Grove Police Department.

Officers were called to the children's grandparents' house over a dispute regarding custody of the three children, he said. The daughter had told her grandmother about some drug activity that had taken place earlier in the day in Orem, so Clayton said the grandmother didn't want the parents to take their children home with them.

The parents then called police, Clayton said.

“They were actually the ones who contacted police to come down to the scene, because they wanted their kids and grandma wasn’t going to let them take them," he said. "They contacted us and when we were on the way they realized (they had drug paraphernalia) and they handed it off to their brother. He was pretty forthcoming later.”

The officer on the scene requested a K-9 unit after the daughter provided a very detailed description of her parents' drug use to him, Clayton said. He said they found .12 grams of heroin in tin foil and other drug-related paraphernalia.

“I don’t know if they didn’t realize there was more in the truck, but with the K-9 alerting on the truck they found more in the truck itself," he said.

The Department of Child and Family Services has been alerted to the case and will determine the placement of the kids, Clayton said. The mother, Adams, is currently pregnant, he said.
