SALT LAKE CITY — Through “Wednesday’s Child,” KSL TV brings you the story of a child living in Utah who hopes to be adopted.

These kids deal with some very difficult things on a daily basis. Sometimes KSL gets to play a small part in making one of their dreams come true.

Taylen is a 10-year-old boy who loves dogs and school recess. But most of all, he loves helicopters.

When we met up with Tylen, we told him he was going to an arcade for a couple of hours. Instead, we brought him to the Chopper 5 hangar. He had no clue what was waiting behind the door.

As the hangar door lifted, Taylen jumped up and down with excitement.

Chopper 5 pilot Ben Tidswell gave Taylen the VIP treatment, showing him around and letting him get a feel for the pilot seat.

“I’m really excited,” said Taylen as the aircraft lifted off.

In the air, Taylen never stopped smiling.

“I never thought I would get to ride in a helicopter,” Taylen said.

He also said he worries he’ll never be adopted.

Taylen moved into the foster care system when life with his biological family was no longer possible. He’s been moving from home to home for several years now.

He admits he’s not always sure how to act.

“Trying to do what you’re supposed to with a family. You just don’t know,” Taylen said.

He doesn’t like to talk about why he is in foster care but is pretty open about who he wants to be with.

“A nice family with a dog,” said Taylen.

During our visit, he learned good things can happen to him, and good things are to come when his forever family finally brings him home.
