LINDON — One firefighter was hospitalized and two employees were treated for smoke inhalation after a stubborn fire started at a business Tuesday.

About 9:15 a.m., emergency crews were called to Vivint Home Security, near 500 South and 500 West in Lindon.

"It appears from initial investigations that this has been caused by a piece of heat tape that was used up there to keep some gutter systems from freezing up. There is, underneath the metal roofing, some foam-like material. Apparently it got hot and that's what started on fire," said Lindon Police Chief Cody Cullimore.

The first arriving crews found heavy smoke coming from the roof. The building was evacuated. At least two of the more than 500 who were inside were treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation.

As of early Friday afternoon, smoke was still filling the building as crews attempted to bring the fire under control.

While fighting the fire, part of the ceiling collapsed on an Orem firefighter. He was transported to a local hospital with a shoulder and hip injury, Cullimore said. The injuries to the firefighter were reportedly not life-threatening.

Vivint said the alarm system's customers were not affected as their calls were being monitored by employees at another location.

Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.
