ROY — Friday and Saturday night, crews will be working on replacing the bridge over I-15 near Riverdale Road, which will affect northbound drivers.

Riverdale Road in Weber County is getting a major overhaul to improve safety and traffic flow. UDOT is in the fourth and final phase of their Riverdale Road project in a one-mile stretch on I-15.

Crews are replacing the old pavement with a new concrete surface, and Friday night they're doing preparation work for the bridge over I-15.

"It's a major interchange for northern Utah,” Jefferies said.

On an average day, 40,000 cars pass Riverdale Road.

"We have a lot of shopping, a lot of retail, dining, a lot of people work and live in this area,” said Randy Jefferies, UDOT project manager.

Both Friday and Saturday night from 11 p.m. to 9 a.m., crews will shut down northbound traffic on I-15 so they can lower four massive steel support beams in place over the interstate.

"We've already cast the panels for the bridge deck. We will just put those down in place like Legos,” Jefferies said.

During the closures, the northbound ramp at 5600 South in Roy will also be closed. I-15 traffic will be diverted on Riverdale Road to I-84, then back to I-15.

Throughout the project, UDOT has kept Riverdale Road open.

"We want to make sure that those who want to work in the Roy and Riverdale area, those that want to shop in this area can continue to do so to grow the economy,” Jeffries said.

There's still work to be done on the entire project, and they won’t move the bridge deck into play until May or June. The project is slated for completion by Thanksgiving.
