TAYLORSVILLE — A Taylorsville man was charged Monday after police say he stabbed his son with a butcher knife.
Augustine Chris Trujillo, 43, was charged Monday in 3rd District Court with aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury, a second-degree felony; two counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child, a third-degree felony; unlawful possession of a dangerous weapon, a class A misdemeanor; and unlawful detention, a class B misdemeanor.
On Feb. 25, Trujillo stabbed his son in the back with a butcher knife, charging documents state.
Police say the victim's sister heard a noise and found Trujillo on top of the victim. She called 911 and attempted to get Trujillo off the victim, striking him with her hands and an infant car seat, but Trujillo didn't release his son until police arrived, charging documents state.

Trujillo's son was transported to a hospital in critical condition, according to police. Two minor children were present during the incident.
Trujillo was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail the next day.
A search of court records indicates Trujillo pleaded guilty in 1992 to simple assault, a class B misdemeanor; battery, a class B misdemeanor; mischievous conduct, a class C misdemeanor; and retail theft, a class B misdemeanor.
In 1995, he pleaded guilty to failing to stop or respond at the command of police, a third-degree felony, and failing to remain at the scene of an accident, a class A misdemeanor.
